"In high demand" in middle age

After nearly 20 years away from the big screen, Quyền Linh chose "Hai Muối" as his comeback project at the age of 55. Despite facing considerable controversy after winning the Best Actor in a Feature Film award at the Golden Kite Awards, it's undeniable that achieving this impressive return required numerous challenges. Speaking to us, Quyền Linh revealed that he lost nearly 30 kg, grew a long beard, and performed many dangerous stunts himself to create a satisfactory film.

Building on his success, Quyền Linh recently landed a leading role in the film " Chốt đơn " (The Final Deal), directed by Bảo Nhân and Namcito. After a busy period as a television presenter, the actor's return to the big screen has been met with enthusiasm from the audience. Many expect his role as Mr. An in "Chốt đơn" to showcase something new after his time away from the big screen.

Viet Huong and Hong Dao deliver a seamless performance in the movie " Sister-in-Law ".

The case of actress Hong Dao is also proof that "the older the ginger, the spicier it gets." Facing numerous health challenges and the difficulties of traveling between the US and Vietnam, the actress demonstrated her energetic performance in 2024 with a series of impressive roles. These include Mrs. Dao, devoted to her children, in the film Mai (which grossed over 500 billion VND), and Ba Ky – an educated, wealthy woman with deep-seated, unhealed wounds in Sister-in-law. In each character, Hong Dao has her own unique way of expressing herself, creating a memorable impact thanks to her acting experience.

Most recently, Hong Dao was introduced to star alongside Quyen Linh in "Chot Don" (The Final Deal). Speaking about her continuous participation in film projects, the actress affirmed that when receiving any offer, she carefully considers whether she can make the role different from her previous characters. At over 60 years old, Hong Dao maintains her professional philosophy: "When taking on any role, I have a responsibility to do it well, to help the film be the best it can be."

At 49, actress Viet Huong also had a successful year in film, playing the role of Mrs. Le in "Ma Da" (grossing over 127 billion VND) and the role of Hai Nhi in "Chi Dau" (grossing over 90 billion VND to date).

Previously, People's Artist Kim Xuân attracted attention for her leading role in the film "Bloody Happiness" at over 70 years old. Actress Thanh Hiền also made an impression on audiences with her portrayal of a hardworking, loving mother in "Flip Face 7: One Wish ." At over 50 years old, Lê Giang won the prestigious Best Actress award (film category) at the Green Star Awards for her role in "Mrs. Nữ's House ." She is also expected to continue shining when she stars in Trấn Thành's film "The Four Leopards" this upcoming Tet holiday.

Quyền Linh is in high demand after his return to the big screen.

Challenges come with opportunities.

To deliver impressive performances on screen and convince the public, in addition to their acting abilities, they also face numerous challenges related to time, health, and reinventing themselves compared to previous characters.

Viet Huong shared that participating in film projects requires careful time management, even relying on her husband's support in managing the theater and business. Furthermore, health is a major consideration for any project. For example, with "Ma Da ," Viet Huong revealed she had to spend time learning to swim and dive, and even immerse herself in water all day to get the desired shots. "Being submerged in water for so long caused my facial muscles to contract from the cold. I had to undergo acupuncture and take supplements to gradually recover," the actress recounted.

Quyền Linh shared that while he had to lose over 30 kg for "Hai Muối ," he gained 12 kg for "Chốt đơn " to suit the character. Despite the difficulties in scheduling and trying to "keep up" with the young cast, the father of two felt happy because he had interesting experiences. "When acting with young people, I received positive energy from them that helped heal me in life," the artist shared.

Speaking about the reasons for choosing Hong Dao and Viet Huong for the roles in the film "Sister-in-Law, " director Khuong Ngoc said that he "didn't give opportunities to just anyone," but rather needed the contributions of veteran artists in this project. "To convince them, you need a solid script. I've noticed recently that many scripts feature lead actors who are getting older, and I personally like that. Just creating diversity in the age range of the main cast opens up opportunities for everyone in terms of acting, and the audience will also be diverse," the director commented on the artists' potential to shine.
