On April 10, Lucy Markovic's loved ones announced her death on Instagram: "We are sad to announce that Lucy has passed away. She passed away peacefully," the post added, adding that she was with her family at the time of her death.

"We ask that you please give us space during this difficult time. May Lucy rest in peace," the post read, along with an angel emoji.
The model, who finished as runner-up on Australia's Next Top Model in 2015 before going on to work for the likes of Versace, Armani and Victoria Beckham, revealed on Instagram last month that she needed surgery to repair an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) "the size of a golf ball," according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). The post has since been deleted.
Previously, Lucy Markovic was scheduled to have surgery on March 26, but the surgery date was later changed to April 2.
CNN reported that Markovic shared in the post that she had suffered from the condition for four years.
According to the Mayo Clinic, an AVM "is a tangle of blood vessels that creates irregular connections between arteries and veins in the brain."
Meanwhile, the Australian Brain Foundation website says: "The condition affects about 3 in 10,000 people."
Lucy Markovic's New York agency, Elite Model Management, was among several to pay tribute on Instagram: "We are deeply saddened to announce that Lucy Markovic has passed away after a courageous battle with a brain arteriovenous malformation. Lucy was a bright light, and had an incredible sense of humor. Her smile and laugh could light up a room, drawing you closer to her. Lucy loved to dance and truly shined."

"Modeling was one of Lucy's dreams and we were honored to be able to accompany her on that journey. Lucy brought elegance, strength and beauty to her work. But more than that, she brought warmth, laughter and light to herself," the post continued.
Elite Model Management shared this message along with a photo of Markovic modeling for Versace: "To her family and friends, please know that you are in our prayers and hearts. We grieve with you and we honor the amazing person that Lucy was. We will never forget her."
Donatella Versace, who stepped down as Versace's creative director last month after nearly 30 years at the helm, reposted a photo of Markovic walking the runway in Los Angeles as a model for the brand.
"I'm so sorry to hear about Lucy Markovic," Donatella Versace, 69, wrote on Instagram, adding: "Rest in peace beautiful girl," along with a dove emoji.
