On the morning of May 22, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Dung (residing in Loc Dien commune, Phu Loc district, Hue city) discovered a golden mountain turtle ( scientific name Indotestudo elongata) weighing about 1kg on her way to work.
The Golden Mountain Tortoise is listed as a rare and endangered species in Group IIB, and is in the Critically Endangered (CR) group of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and should be prioritized for protection and banned from hunting and trading. Therefore, Ms. Dung called the Phu Loc District Forest Protection Department to hand over this rare animal.

Previously, on May 21, Mr. Le Cong Thanh (Phong Thu ward, Phong Dien town, Hue city) suddenly discovered a Java pangolin (scientific name Manis javanica, an animal listed as critically endangered according to the IUCN Red Book, belonging to group IB) straying into his house. Because he had been previously informed and knew that this was a rare wild animal that was prohibited from hunting and trading, Mr. Thanh voluntarily handed over this animal to the Phong Dien town Forest Protection Department.

On the same day, A Luoi District Forest Protection Department received a reticulated python handed over by Mr. Ho Duc Ly (residing in Trung Son commune, A Luoi district).
According to statistics from the Hue City Forest Protection Department, from 2022 to 2024, local people voluntarily handed over 232 wild animals, including 212 endangered and rare animals. Since the beginning of 2025, 33 more rare and endangered wild animals have been handed over to forest rangers by local people for release into the wild.
