This is an annual mass sports activity, considered one of the most traditional running races in Vietnam, originating in 1974.
Attending the opening ceremony were comrades: Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper; Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association ; Hoang Dao Cuong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee and many representatives of relevant agencies.

This year's tournament is held in the context of many important historical, political and cultural events taking place in Hanoi: the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, the 71st anniversary of the Capital Liberation Day and the 26th anniversary of Hanoi being awarded the title "City for Peace" by UNESCO.
With the 50th milestone, the tournament continues to affirm its role as a long-term sports playground for the people of the capital, while expanding its influence to the international community.
The launching ceremony in March 2025 has initiated a widespread movement in areas, universities and colleges in the capital.
According to statistics, about 350,000 athletes participated in the grassroots round, the highest number in the history of the tournament. This is not only a testament to the attraction of the activity, but also shows that the spirit of physical training and health improvement has spread strongly to many classes of people.

At the City Finals, there were more than 3,000 athletes from Hanoi and other provinces and cities. Of these, 250 were foreign citizens, from 20 embassies, international organizations and international schools in Hanoi.
In addition to the main competition force, there were also about 2,500 athletes from central agencies, cities, enterprises, armed units, along with leaders of the People's Committee and representatives of cultural and sports centers of 126 communes and wards participating in the run.
The combination of professional athletes and large crowds created an exciting atmosphere, turning the sporting event into a community festival.
The organizing committee awarded prizes to athletes with high achievements, notably Bui Thi Thu Ha (Thanh Hoa) who won the women's advanced open category (distance 5,250m) and Hoang Viet Vy Ly (Hanoi University of Physical Education and Sports) who won the men's advanced open category (distance 8,750m).

In addition to the competition, this year’s race also carries a message of peace. Delegates, athletes and people signed a message to send to international friends.
This is considered a symbolic activity, adding spiritual value to the event, while emphasizing Hanoi's commitment to maintaining and spreading the image of a city associated with peace, friendship and cooperation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee, emphasized: The Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run not only contributes to improving community health but also promotes the image of the capital to friends around the world. According to her, the event has a broad social significance, encouraging people to exercise during the integration period, while also contributing to affirming Hanoi's position as a major cultural and sports center of the country.

Over half a century, the race has become a part of the collective memory of many generations of people. With each edition, the race records new figures in scale and quality, reflecting the continuous development of the mass sports movement. The maintenance and expansion of the tournament shows the enduring vitality of a sports activity originating from the movement "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho".
This year's sports festival continues to attract the attention of a large number of spectators and people of the capital. The athletes compete in a spirit of solidarity, honesty and nobility. Observers assess that this event not only has sporting significance, but also contributes to creating a space for cultural exchange, promoting friendly relations between the Vietnamese community and international friends living in Hanoi.
The association of sport with the message of peace is also considered a special highlight. In the context of many global challenges, the message from the Hanoi race is symbolic, expressing the desire for a humane and sustainable future.
With the large participation, this year's event is considered an important step forward, affirming the long-lasting vitality of a half-century-old tournament. The final round of the 50th Hanoi Moi Newspaper Run - For Peace 2025 is expected to continue to inspire and encourage the mass sports movement, while strengthening the image of Hanoi - City For Peace in the eyes of international friends.
