People who smoke regularly have an 8 times higher risk of aortic aneurysm than normal people.

Dr. Nguyen Manh Thang, Head of the Department of Cardiology, Duc Giang General Hospital, said that the male patient had dangerous warning signs of coronary artery disease: severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, sweaty lips, and could suddenly stop his heart if not given timely emergency care.

The Emergency Department doctor diagnosed an acute myocardial infarction within the first hour. Immediately, the hospital activated the red alert procedure for treating patients with acute myocardial infarction.

The patient underwent percutaneous coronary angiography which showed a thrombus completely occluding the anterior interventricular artery from segment I (a major artery supplying blood to the heart muscle).

Faced with the risk that the patient could develop a critical condition and have a cardiac arrest, the doctors immediately held a consultation and prescribed intervention to aspirate the thrombus, dilate it, and place 3 stents to restore the natural flow of the damaged coronary artery system.

There were times when the patient experienced arrhythmia during the intervention, with low blood pressure of 90/60 mmHg. Fortunately, the intervention was successful, saving the patient from danger.

According to doctors, coronary artery disease, especially acute myocardial infarction, is showing signs of getting younger. Regular smoking can cause serious damage to blood vessels. Regular smokers may experience more angina and myocardial infarction than non-smokers. In addition, the age of onset of myocardial infarction is also earlier, with more dangerous complications, and is twice as high as that of non-smokers.

Not only the young male patient above, many medical facilities have received young patients with acute myocardial infarction for emergency care, most of whom have a history of smoking addiction.

Doctors say that cigarette smoke increases the secretion of catecholamine. This is a natural substance in the body that has the same effect as adrenaline. When this substance has a concentration that is too high, it can cause arrhythmia, even ventricular fibrillation, leading to sudden death if not treated promptly.

In particular, regular smoking will increase the risk of atherosclerotic plaques forming in the aorta, obstructing the blood supply from the heart to the organs in the body. When the aorta is narrowed by atherosclerotic plaques, it will form bulges, and at the same time the artery will gradually weaken and can rupture, threatening life.

Research shows that people who regularly smoke are 8 times more likely to develop an aortic aneurysm than normal people. The danger is so imminent, but many people are still quite subjective, showing signs of coronary heart disease but not listening to the doctor's advice to quit smoking.

Through the above case, doctors once again warn of the top dangers of smoking causing cardiovascular disease and recommend that people, especially young people, quit smoking cigarettes and tobacco to protect their own health and that of the community.
