Mr. Huy's experience and expertise not only benefit the Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board but also contribute to enhancing the biodiversity value of the Phu Mo natural forest area.
Having a deep connection with the natural forests of Phu Mo commune, Mr. Huy knows exactly where the valuable timber, medicinal plants, and rare animals are located, and together with his colleagues, he protects the forest ecosystem.
The forest area under the management of the Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board is quite complex, bordering the ethnic minority region of Gia Lai province. The trails at the foot of the mountains could provide opportunities for individuals to exploit and violate the Forestry Law. However, with enthusiasm and responsibility, Mr. Huy and the team of the Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board have effectively limited deforestation and encroachment on forest land in recent times.
For Mr. Huy, patrolling the forest is both a passion and a responsibility. Working in difficult conditions, mostly on foot and facing dangers, he always completes his duties well. “I have been involved with the forest in Dong Xuan for a long time and I appreciate the value of the majestic nature. The work is hard, but I feel I have a responsibility to strive to preserve and protect the valuable timber trees and the ecosystem of the natural forest. This is also how I preserve the values of nature for future generations,” Mr. Huy shared.

The Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board recently surveyed and assessed medicinal plants under the forest canopy, developed a plan to demarcate raw material areas, attract investment, improve living standards and increase livelihoods for ethnic minorities in the buffer zone, contributing to the management and protection of Phu Mo natural forest. The results showed that there are approximately 100 types of medicinal plants belonging to the following groups: woody plants, shrubs, herbaceous plants, aromatic plants, wild vegetables, vines, and mushrooms within the forest area under the unit's management.
A key contributor to these discoveries was Mr. Huynh Thanh Huy. With his years of experience and observations made during forest patrols, Mr. Huy marked and recorded areas containing rare medicinal plants, reporting them to his unit. This provided the Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board with a basis for planning surveys and assessments.
Having spent over 30 years working in the forests of Phu Mo commune, Mr. Huy possesses extensive knowledge of the terrain and guides expert and scientific teams working in the natural forest area of Phu Mo. This has led to effective solutions for protecting biodiversity within the forest area managed by the Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board.
“Mr. Huynh Thanh Huy is an experienced and enthusiastic officer. Not only does he complete his assigned tasks, but he also plays a crucial role in coordinating and providing valuable biological information about large forest areas to scientific teams and forestry experts. This is something that not every officer can do,” assessed Mr. Nguyen Trung Hao, Director of the Dong Xuan Protective Forest Management Board.
