Mr. Luu Vinh Tien, Head of Dong Luat Forest Management and Protection Station (the person in front), patrols and protects the forest.

Born and raised in the mountainous region of the former Thach Thanh district, Mr. Tien understood the importance of forest protection to the lives of the people. For this reason, even in junior high school, Mr. Tien dreamed of becoming a forest protector. After graduating from high school, he applied to and was admitted to the Faculty of Agriculture, now the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (Hong Duc University). In 2009, after graduating from university, Mr. Tien was assigned to work at the Thach Thanh Protective Forest Management Board and at the Thanh Van Forest Protection Management Station.

With his youthful energy and enthusiasm, Mr. Tien has strived to overcome difficulties to successfully complete his assigned tasks, earning recognition and praise from the leadership of the Thach Thanh Protective Forest Management Board. In 2018, Mr. Tien was honored to be appointed as the Head of the Thanh Van Forest Protection and Management Station. In June 2022, Mr. Tien was transferred to the Dong Luat Forest Protection and Management Station.

The Dong Luat Forest Protection Management Station is located in Thanh Vinh commune. The station is responsible for managing and protecting 738 hectares of forest, including over 500 hectares of natural forest and over 238 hectares of planted production forest belonging to many households in the commune. As the station chief, Mr. Tien has coordinated with the local Party committee and government to promote propaganda and mobilize households to undertake forest planting and protection contracts, and participate in forest protection and fire prevention and control. At the same time, he has developed and implemented many solutions to manage and protect the forest area assigned to the station. He proactively coordinates with functional forces, strengthens inspection and supervision, and strictly handles those who violate the Forestry Law.

In addition, Mr. Tien also guided households contracted to protect forests, and taught them forest planting and care techniques. He encouraged many households to develop integrated economic models and established connections with various units that purchase products from farms and family-run agricultural enterprises in the commune. To improve the productivity of planted forests, Mr. Tien mobilized social capital to build a 200m2 seedling nursery equipped with high-tech equipment to provide quality seedlings to households engaged in forest planting.

Mr. Luu Vinh Tien, Head of the Dong Luat Forest Management and Protection Station, said: “The forest area assigned to the station for management and protection is very difficult and arduous to access. Despite this, the station still deploys personnel to regularly patrol and protect the forest. During hot weather, when forest fires are likely to occur, the station operates 24/7 to detect and mobilize forces to handle forest fires promptly. Although the work of managing and protecting the forest is arduous, and the working and living conditions of the station staff are still lacking, with a love for the profession, the station staff always unite and strive to overcome difficulties to successfully complete the assigned tasks; actively helping households develop forest-based economic activities, increase income, and improve their lives.”

Thanks to the synchronized implementation of forest protection solutions, the area of protection forests and production forests managed by the Dong Luat Forest Management and Protection Station has been safely protected, with no forest fires occurring. Newly planted forests are cared for according to proper technical procedures, growing and developing well; the income of people contracted to plant and protect forests has gradually increased. Currently, the contracted households have established 10 integrated agricultural and forestry production forest models, bringing economic efficiency and creating jobs for many local laborers.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Deputy Director of the Thach Thanh Protective Forest Management Board, said: "In recent times, the Dong Luat Forest Management and Protection Station has achieved many accomplishments in forest management and protection. This achievement is largely due to the role of Mr. Luu Vinh Tien. For his contributions, Mr. Luu Vinh Tien has received numerous commendations from various levels and sectors. Recently, he was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment for his achievements in forest management and protection."
