According to the 2019 Labor Code, a bonus is a sum of money or property or other forms of reward that an employer gives to an employee based on production and business results and the employee's level of job performance.

The bonus regulations are determined by the employer and publicly announced at the workplace after consulting with the employee representative organization at the workplace, if such an organization exists.

Therefore, employees will receive Tet bonuses in 2026 in the form of money, assets, or other forms of rewards from employers based on production and business results and the level of job performance of the employees.

Businesses are not obligated to give Tet bonuses to their employees. Whether or not to give Tet bonuses depends on the company's business performance and the employees' productivity.

At the same time, businesses are not obligated to give employees Tet bonuses in cash. Instead, businesses can reward employees with other forms of bonuses or assets.

In reality, although Tet bonuses are not mandatory, many companies still strive to ensure salaries and Tet bonuses for employees, even when facing difficulties, in order to motivate them to work harder and stay committed to their jobs.

In some cases, employee bonuses are also agreed upon and stipulated in the collective bargaining agreement or the individual employment contract between the two parties.

Typically, companies reward employees with a month's salary. However, some companies with strong revenue streams may offer bonuses of up to two to three times that amount.

According to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor , this year, large enterprises and foreign-invested enterprises generally increased Tet bonuses. Small businesses, despite facing difficulties, mostly maintained bonuses with increases ranging from 3-15% compared to the previous year.

Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Ha, Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, commented: "Last year, the average bonus was about 1.5 months' salary, but this year, we also predict it will be higher, around 1.8 to 3 months' salary."

Labor experts predict that high Tet bonuses are concentrated in the construction, real estate, and export sectors. Some businesses that rely on the domestic market will have lower bonus levels.
