Japanese company invented a type of socket that can be mounted both horizontally and vertically, solving the problem of adapters taking up space.

Sanwa Supply, a small Japanese electronics company, posted a power outlet on its crowdfunding page. The seemingly basic item, which could not be updated, unexpectedly received a lot of attention from the community.

The product has a unique design, helping to solve the inherent problem of conventional devices: The socket has a hole but cannot be plugged in.

In just a short time, Sanwa has reached the amount of money needed to commercialize the product. On the Makuake platform, the company earned 11.32 million yen (2 billion VND), 740 times the initial goal.

With long sockets with many holes, users will take up a lot of space when installing large plugs or electronic device chargers. Therefore, even if there is space, users are frustrated because they cannot add more items to the power source.

With its smart structure, Sanwa's socket can be inserted vertically, horizontally or in between two holes and still work normally. The product has 8 holes. But each of these positions has 4 instead of 2 slots as usual. It can also be expanded when 2 adjacent holes have enough space to insert another plug in the middle.

In addition, the manufacturer also arranged 2 more USB-A and USB-C charging positions as modern standards. It comes in 2 colors, black and white, with a 1.5-3 m cable option.

The socket also comes with 1 USB Type A and Type C port.

The company says it took three years of research from the initial idea. The technical problem was to arrange the contacts at twice the normal density, while still ensuring electrical safety, avoiding contact, short circuit or overheating.

This socket was born to handle situations users encounter at the desk or under the TV cabinet, locations that require a lot of peripheral devices and chargers.

According to the announcement, this item has received Japanese electrical safety certification. The product also prevents fire spread and lightning. The socket is currently sold on e-commerce sites for 3,600 yen (850,000 VND).

This item was shared on Reddit and was highly appreciated by many international users, praising it as a genius idea. However, its design is only suitable for countries using the standard two-prong flat-pin plug.

The product cannot be used in markets that use 3-pin plugs. In addition, the round-pin shape, which requires more space, is also a technical challenge for Sanwa when converting.
