These days, peach growers here are busy completing the final care steps to ensure they have healthy, beautiful peach trees to serve people during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.
The family of Mr. Tran Van Hai, residing in residential area No. 2, Tam Chuc ward, has over 4,000 square meters planted with nearly 300 peach trees; primarily double-petaled peach blossoms - a variety with vibrant flower colors, large, thick, and durable petals, creating a sense of robustness and harmonious form.
Mr. Tran Van Hai said that peach tree cultivation depends heavily on weather conditions. This year, the weather has been quite dry, with high temperatures and no prolonged cold spells, making it difficult to regulate the flowering of peach trees to coincide with the Lunar New Year. Due to the weather, his family and other peach tree growers in the area have had to delay leaf removal by about 10 days compared to previous years to slow down the flowering process and ensure the flowers bloom in time for the Lunar New Year. The price of ornamental peach trees annually ranges from 4 to 15 million VND per tree and 300,000 to 700,000 VND per branch. Currently, his family's ornamental peach trees are ready to serve customers with balanced shapes and dense branches, and are expected to bloom in time for Tet.
At this time, the peach blossom garden of Ms. Nguyen Thanh Duyen's family, in residential area No. 7, Tam Chuc ward, is also beautiful and ready to serve customers who come to buy them to display during the Lunar New Year.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Duyen said that in recent years, to meet market demand, along with growing peach trees with shaped roots and bonsai peach trees, her family has also been growing peach trees with trailing branches, because they look unique and are suitable for family spaces. Currently, on an area of 1 hectare, her family grows 200 large grafted peach trees shaped into bonsai, and nearly 1,000 mini peach trees and peach trees with trailing branches. To maintain the Ba Sao peach brand, growers must adhere to a strict care process including fertilizing the roots, shaping branches, pruning to create a canopy, root thinning, digging the soil around the base to concentrate nutrients for shoots and flowers, and removing leaves. These steps also need to be flexibly adjusted according to weather conditions.
"Although it's hard work, peach farming yields significantly higher economic returns compared to other crops. After deducting expenses, my family earns between 300 and 400 million VND per year," shared Ms. Nguyen Thanh Duyen.
Ba Sao peach blossoms come in two main varieties: light pink and dark pink. Thanks to being grown in a semi-mountainous area with loose, well-drained soil, the trees grow steadily, with evenly developed branches, resulting in concentrated blooms and long-lasting color. Therefore, despite the increasingly diverse trends in flower and ornamental plant cultivation, Ba Sao peach blossoms remain a popular choice for many during the Lunar New Year.
According to Mr. Hoang Van Thuy, a long-time grower of Ba Sao peach blossoms, peach trees shed their leaves annually in winter. After the leaves fall, the flower buds develop and grow very quickly. If left to nature, the peach tree will shed its leaves at the end of the twelfth lunar month and the flowers will bloom at the end of the first or second lunar month of the following year. To ensure the peach blossoms bloom beautifully for Tet (Lunar New Year), growers must strip the leaves beforehand to "slow down" the tree, usually in the eleventh lunar month. This is a meticulous and painstaking task to avoid damaging the flower buds at the leaf axils...
Besides the pink and red peach blossoms, Ba Sao also boasts the ancient peach blossom (also known as the native peach blossom). This type of peach blossom is always sought after by connoisseurs for the Lunar New Year. The ancient peach blossoms of Ba Sao have existed for a long time, growing in forests, rocky mountainous areas, or in the gardens of many families. The ancient peach blossoms have single petals in a pale pink color, and the trees bloom naturally with both flowers and young leaves, giving them a pure and vibrant beauty.
Mr. Le Ngoc Nam, from Phu Ly ward ( Ninh Binh province), said that every year his family chooses Ba Sao peach blossoms to display during Tet (Lunar New Year). Ba Sao peach blossoms have vibrant colors, evenly colored flowers, and especially large blooms that last for a long time, potentially staying in bloom for nearly two months. The earlier you buy them, the more choices you have and the more trees you can admire. Closer to Tet, the prices are usually higher and there are no beautiful trees left to buy.
With its superior economic efficiency compared to other crops, peach cultivation has been identified by Tam Chuc ward as one of the important directions contributing to increasing people's income. The local government has been coordinating with relevant departments and agencies to promote awareness, organize training courses, provide technical guidance, support market connections, organize spring flower markets, and establish "Ornamental Peach Cultivation Cooperatives"... Through these efforts, farmers can improve their cultivation skills, proactively adapt to weather conditions and market demands, and develop peach cultivation sustainably.

Mr. Chu Van Hop, Chairman of the Tam Chuc Ward Farmers' Association, said that in recent years, due to the policy of land clearance for socio-economic development projects, the area of peach cultivation in the ward has tended to shrink. However, the households growing Ba Sao peaches have made efforts to maintain and preserve the traditional peach cultivation profession, gradually shifting towards improving the quality and value of peaches on the same cultivated area. In the coming time, the Tam Chuc Ward Farmers' Association will continue to coordinate with relevant units to strengthen the organization of training sessions on peach cultivation techniques, adaptation to climate change, building and promoting the Ba Sao peach brand, contributing to increasing the economic value of peaches.
