Japan is still one of the countries chosen by many Vietnamese tourists.

According to data recently released by the General Statistics Office, in the first 6 months of 2025, the number of Vietnamese people leaving the country reached 4,062,800, an increase of 53.9% over the same period last year.

According to Vietnam News Agency, statistics over the past 6 months show that the number of Vietnamese tourists to Thailand estimated to reach more than 370,000 arrivals. Thailand has long been the first destination chosen by Vietnamese tourists when traveling internationally because of its simple procedures, short travel time, many flight routes, similar cuisine , and cheap prices. Although still leading, the number of Vietnamese tourists to Thailand in the first half of 2025 decreased by 26% compared to the same period in 2024. According to some experts, the reason may be that this destination is too familiar, "saturated", in addition to unfavorable factors due to natural disasters and some protests.

According to data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in Vietnam, in the first five months of the year, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan reached 311,000, an increase of nearly 10% over the same period last year. Vietnam currently ranks 10th among international markets to Japan.

Notably, Vietnamese tourists to Japan have not only increased in number but also seen a clear change in tourism trends. Designed tours and self-guided tours are gradually becoming more popular than traditional package tours. Besides big cities like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto... many other localities with unique natural scenery and distinctive culture are also sought after by tourists.

South Korea also welcomed more than 269,000 Vietnamese tourists in the first 6 months of the year, an increase of nearly 10% over the same period in 2024. Although tour prices are quite high and visas are required, this Northeast Asian country is still popular with Vietnamese tourists thanks to its many direct flights, diverse cuisine, diverse cultural experiences and the appeal of entertainment stars.

Taiwan (China) recorded 114,000 Vietnamese visitors in the first four months of this year, a slight increase from 113,000 in the same period last year. This destination is aiming to attract visitors from the Vietnamese market with favorable visa policies and many strong tourism promotion programs.

Representatives of several major travel agencies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City said the main reasons for the increase in the number of Vietnamese tourists going abroad include: increasingly flexible visa policies; stable tour and airfare prices; and the trend of international "check-in" by young tourists.

There are no official figures on the number of Vietnamese tourists to China and some other traditional markets in Europe. However, according to tourism industry data, during the April 30 holiday and summer 2025, foreign tours were booked quite early and accounted for a high proportion at many travel agencies. In general, the purchasing power and experience needs of Vietnamese tourists will open up many opportunities for outbound tourism in the near future.
