Ekitike is the target of Newcastle and MU. |
This move shows coach Eddie Howe's strong determination to upgrade the attack for the 2025/26 season, especially after the departure of Callum Wilson.
Currently, the Magpies rely on Alexander Isak in attack, while Will Osula is the only name ready to replace from the bench. With a tight schedule coming up, especially in Europe, coach Howe wants another quality striker to share the scoring burden with Isak.
Ekitike, 23, was wanted by Newcastle in 2022 but eventually opted for Paris Saint-Germain. He then joined Frankfurt and impressed with 22 goals in 48 appearances last season. The German side have set a release clause of £86m but according to the Daily Mail , Newcastle hope their current offer will be enough to convince Frankfurt to let him go.
After spending £55m to sign Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest, Ekitike would be their second big-money signing of the summer if the deal goes through. Newcastle are training in Austria and have held a number of meetings with Frankfurt and Ekitike representatives over the past week.
Previously, MU was said to be eyeing Ekitike. However, the Old Trafford club has not yet had the revenue from selling players to officially promote this deal.
In addition, the St James' Park team is also keeping an eye on Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, with the possibility of sending another offer after completing the Ekitike deal.
