In the fields of Trung Mon 9, Trung Mon 11, Trung Mon 12, and Trung Mon 16 residential areas in Minh Xuan ward, heavy rain caused widespread flooding. The heavy rain also transformed fields, ponds, and streams into vast expanses of water. Many residents took advantage of the situation by wading and rowing boats into the floodwaters to catch fish.
Mr. Tran Van D, from Trung Mon 9 residential area, Minh Xuan ward, shared: "During these rainy days, although we know it's dangerous to go fishing, it's a rare opportunity. By diligently casting our nets, we can catch 5-7 kg of fish each day. This fish not only helps improve our family meals but can also be sold to generate additional income."
Mr. Nguyen Dinh H, from Trung Mon 16 residential group, Minh Xuan ward, said: "Taking advantage of the rainy season and the inability to do other work, I and a few others in the village went to the field in front of our house to catch fish. The water has risen high these past few days, and there are a lot of fish, so we've caught quite a bit. This helps improve our meals and provides some extra income."

Fishing during floods carries an extremely high risk of drowning. This is because the floodwaters not only sweep away fish and shrimp but also contain countless unforeseen dangers. Yet, many people still brave the dangers, wading or swimming into the middle of the floodwaters to catch fish.
In low-lying communes along the Lo and Gam rivers, such as Yen Son, Hong Son, and Xuan Van, many people still brave the dangers of wading and swimming into the high water to cast their nets. Mr. Trinh Cong Manh, Secretary of the Party Branch of Pho Thi village, Hong Son commune, expressed his concern: "I have witnessed many people risking their lives in the middle of the river just for a few kilograms of fish. Last year during the flood season, there was a tragic drowning incident right in the village's fields. The floodwaters flow very strongly; just stepping on a muddy bank or being swept away by a whirlpool means there's no time to react."

According to the reporter's observations, most of the fishermen were not wearing life jackets. Significantly, in addition to using small, makeshift boats that did not meet safety standards, many people also disregarded the danger and waded into deep pools of water to cast their nets. The fast-flowing, swirling floodwaters could sweep anyone away in an instant.
There have been many tragic drowning incidents while fishing during the rainy season and floods. Therefore, local authorities need to strengthen public awareness campaigns and remind people not to participate in fishing during the rainy season and floods. People need to be extremely cautious and always prioritize safety.
