In recent days, prolonged heavy rains along with flood discharges from hydroelectric reservoirs have submerged many localities in Tuyen Quang province. Rising water levels and strong currents have turned fields, ponds, lakes and rivers into vast floodwaters. However, despite warnings and lurking dangers, many people still risk their lives by diving into floodwaters to fish, considering this a "golden opportunity" to earn extra income.

In the fields of Trung Mon 9, Trung Mon 11, Trung Mon 12, Trung Mon 16, Minh Xuan ward, heavy rain caused floodwaters from everywhere to flow in, causing widespread flooding. Heavy rain also turned fields, ponds, lakes and rivers into vast seas. Many people took advantage of the opportunity to wade and row boats into the floodwaters to catch fish.

Mr. Tran Van D, Trung Mon 9 residential group, Minh Xuan ward shared: "On these rainy days, although we know it is dangerous to go fishing, this is a rare opportunity. By working hard to cast the net, we can catch 5-7 kg of fish every day. This amount of fish not only helps improve family meals but can also be sold for extra income."

Mr. Nguyen Dinh H, Trung Mon 16 residential group, Minh Xuan ward said: "Taking advantage of the rainy and flooded days, unable to do anything else, I and some villagers went to the field in front of our house to fish. In the past few days, the water has risen, there are many fish coming in, so we have caught quite a lot, we can both improve our meals and have extra income."

Fishing during rainy and flood days poses an extremely high risk of drowning. Because the floodwaters not only carry away fish and shrimps but also contain countless unpredictable dangers. However, many people still brave the danger by wading and swimming in the middle of the big water to catch fish.

In the low-lying communes along the Lo and Gam rivers such as Yen Son, Hong Son, Xuan Van communes... many people still risk their lives wading and swimming into the middle of the big water to cast their nets. Mr. Trinh Cong Manh, Party Secretary of Pho Thi village, Hong Son commune, expressed his concern: "I have witnessed many people risking their lives in the middle of the water just for a few kilos of fish. Last year's flood season, there was a tragic drowning incident right in the village fields. The flood water flows very strongly, just stepping into the swamp or being swept away by the whirlpool is too much to handle."

People need to be extremely careful when fishing in flood water.

According to the reporter's observation, most of the fishermen were not wearing life jackets. It is worth mentioning that in addition to using small, makeshift, unsafe boats, many people also risked their lives by wading into deep puddles to cast their nets. The strong currents and whirlpools could sweep anyone away in an instant.

There have been many tragic drowning incidents while fishing during the flood season. Therefore, local authorities need to step up their efforts to warn people not to fish during the flood season. People need to be extremely careful and always put safety first.
