Expanding capacity and raw material areas
An Khe Sugar Factory was established on October 22, 2000 under Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company. Initially, the Factory had a designed capacity of 2,000 tons of sugarcane/day and a raw material area of about 2,400 hectares in the eastern part of the province.
In order to expand the sugarcane material area, over the past years, Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company and the Factory have simultaneously implemented 4 major programs: mechanization, chemicalization, biologicalization and management optimization. In particular, focusing on the management of the material area, considering this a breakthrough program to increase the average yield from 50 tons/ha to 80 tons/ha, helping sugarcane growers have higher profits compared to some other crops.
The factory has also implemented many preferential policies and stable purchasing prices. Thanks to that, the raw material area is increasingly expanding. Up to now, the factory's raw material area covers 4 districts and towns in the East of the province with nearly 32,000 hectares. In the 2024-2025 crop year, the factory will purchase more than 2.1 million tons of sugarcane.
Along with expanding the raw material area, the Factory focused on investing in modern equipment, gradually increasing the capacity from 2,000 tons of sugarcane/day to 4,000 tons of sugarcane/day (2006). By 2016, the Factory increased the capacity from 10,000 tons of sugarcane/day to 18,000 tons/day; at the same time, applying advanced technology and automation in the operating stages helps to improve pressing efficiency, maximize sugar recovery, and reduce sugar loss during processing.
The refined sugar line with a capacity of 1,000 tons/day is a modern sugar refining system, applying advanced technology in the world , removing impurities by carbonation method, decolorizing by ION exchange system. With modern machinery, the Factory focuses on producing RE sugar, RS, brown sugar, raw sugar, molasses, and post-sugar products.

The Factory's sugar bag products are available in 4 leading supermarket systems in Vietnam such as: Bic C, Bach Hoa Xanh, Co.op Mart, Winmart/Winmart+, initially exporting An Khe sugar bags to the Taiwanese market and other countries around the world. For many years, An Khe sugar products have achieved national brands and have been recognized as 4-star OCOP at the provincial level.
With a long-term strategic vision and maximizing profits and protecting the environment, Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company has invested in building a modern sugarcane-sugar-electricity industrial cluster. An Khe Biomass Power Plant with a capacity of 95 MW has been connected to the national grid.
An Khe Sugar Factory has invested in a quality management system according to international standards, and has been applying quality management systems such as: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22000, HACCP, Halal, 5S; FSSC 22000 standards, contributing to improving productivity and product quality.
To meet the people's demand for sugarcane consumption in a timely and effective manner, Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company decided to invest in expanding and increasing the capacity of An Khe Sugar Factory to 25,000 tons of sugarcane/day and expanding and increasing the capacity of An Khe Biomass Power Plant from 95 MW to 135 MW with a total investment of VND 2,015 billion.
Along with that, on the basis of using raw materials from molasses of sugar production to create high-value products, the Company established an investment project for An Khe Ethanol Factory with an investment of 1,741 billion VND to be proactive in processing activities, diversify products, and increase the value of sugarcane.
On April 3, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Rah Lan Chung handed over the decision approving the adjustment of the investment policy and approving the investor of the project to expand the capacity of An Khe Sugar Factory to 25,000 tons of sugarcane/day of Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company.
With the current sugarcane output and pressing capacity as above, the annual processed sugar output of An Khe Sugar Factory reaches over 300,000 tons, accounting for over 20% of the country's sugar output. Each year, the Factory contributes 200 billion VND to the provincial budget. It is expected that the sugarcane area in the eastern part of the province in the coming years will reach over 40,000 hectares, with a sugarcane output of 3-3.2 million tons/crop year.
Many practical activities and policies
Not only fulfilling its obligations to the State, each year, An Khe Sugar Factory also coordinates with local authorities to give hundreds of gifts to poor and near-poor households, policy families, and meritorious people; and contributes funds to build bridges and rural roads in eastern districts and towns.
Aiming at the benefit of sugarcane growers, the Factory cooperates with Viet Nhat Fertilizer Company to produce specialized fertilizers for sugarcane in the raw material area, contributing to improving productivity and income. Investing in sugarcane cuttings for growing silk for 3 varieties Uthoong11, KK3, LK92-11 at the rate of 5-10 million VND/ha, not investing in sugarcane areas growing other varieties. Supporting non-recovery of sludge residue 50-70 tons/ha depending on the type of soil tested by the factory. Regarding fertilizer, the Factory invests 800-1,000 kg of fertilizer/ha plus 1,000 kg of lime/ha and mechanical plowing, harrowing, and planting. All investments are interest-free.
In recent years, the Factory has continuously increased its purchase price, bringing maximum profits to sugarcane growers. In the 2024-2025 sugarcane crop, the Factory will purchase 1.1 million VND/ton of 10% sugarcane in the field; support at the beginning of the season 20,000 VND/ton of pure sugarcane (sugarcane excluding sugarcane); support an average transportation fee of 160,000 VND/ton to the Factory (depending on the distance of the wharf, the fee will be different).
At the end of October 2024, the Factory announced additional policies to encourage the development of sugarcane raw material areas and sugarcane purchase price insurance from the 2024-2025 crushing season to 2027-2028 for land areas converted to sugarcane cultivation.
In particular, the area of land for growing acacia, eucalyptus, long-term industrial crops, and reclaimed land converted to sugarcane cultivation is supported with 3 million VND/ha; land for growing cassava converted to sugarcane cultivation is supported with 1 million VND/ha. The insurance for sugarcane purchase price for 4 harvests: 2024-2025, 2025-2026, 2026-2027, 2027-2028 at the field is 1 million VND/ton of 10% sugarcane. When implementing sugarcane harvests, based on the actual situation, the Factory issues sugarcane purchase prices in each period, ensuring that they are not lower than the sugarcane price insurance level.
Implementing Directive No. 13-CT/TU dated December 5, 2023 of the Provincial Party Standing Committee on strengthening twinning between agencies, units and ethnic minority villages, the Factory organized twinning with Hoa Binh village (Tu An commune, An Khe town) and Sro commune (Kong Chro district) to help localities develop.
Responding to the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide by 2025" launched by the Prime Minister and the call of the Steering Committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the eastern localities of the province, the Factory has donated 120 million VND to help localities soon complete their targets and tasks.
Director of An Khe Sugar Factory Tran Quang Kien said: Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company's expansion of the capacity of An Khe Sugar Factory to 25,000 tons of sugarcane/day and the capacity of An Khe Biomass Power Plant to 135 MW will create thousands of new jobs, making a great contribution to the budget and socio-economic development in the East of the province.
Speaking at the ceremony to hand over the decision approving the adjustment of the investment policy and approving the investor of the project to expand the capacity of An Khe Sugar Factory to 25,000 tons of sugarcane/day of Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Rah Lan Chung emphasized: In recent times, An Khe Sugar Factory has made positive contributions to the province's budget revenue and economic growth; always accompanying in implementing social security policies, solving employment for workers and standing side by side with people in economic development, improving life.
Regarding the Company's investment projects in the coming time, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Rah Lan Chung affirmed: The Provincial People's Committee directs departments and branches to support and guide enterprises on documents and procedures related to project implementation, while creating all favorable conditions for enterprises to develop.
