Among the new members recently announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association is a poet who is also a doctor: poet Tran Quoc Vinh. He believes that the literary profession suddenly came to him one beautiful day, and since then he has leisurely enjoyed and indulged in literature.
Poet Tran Quoc Vinh
Poet Tran Quoc Vinh recounted: "Even when I was in school, although I was good at math, I still loved reading poetry. I memorized folk songs, the Tale of Kieu, Luc Van Tien, and my father's poems. Everyone in my family loved poetry, especially my mother, who knew all 3,254 verses of the Tale of Kieu by heart and copied them into volumes to give to her eight children. All of this had a profound influence on me." He has published two poetry collections that have been widely read: "Traveling Poetry" and "Painting Flowers in the Wind" (Vietnam Writers Association Publishing House) with nearly 200 poems. Many of Tran Quoc Vinh's works have also been set to music. Currently, he is planning to publish a book on medicine and a new poetry collection.
"I am a doctor, a profession under a lot of pressure. Because patients respect and trust doctors, I am very careful not to give them the impression that I am 'absent-minded'. However, poetry is a form of entertainment that helps me relieve sorrow and stress," Dr. Vinh confided.
