From May 21st onwards, the Northern regional qualifiers of the 2026 Vietnam Workers and Public Employees Football Tournament will take place in the vibrant atmosphere of the 2026 Workers' Month, celebrating the 14th Congress of the Vietnam Trade Union.
Mr. Ha Van Vy, Vice Chairman of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Labor Union and Head of the Tuyen Quang Labor Union Football Team, said that after receiving the plan from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Tuoi Tre newspaper, the locality organized a provincial-level tournament to select players to participate in the Northern qualifying round.
"We selected 16 of the best players, representing the spirit of the workers in the resistance-era capital region, to participate in the tournament," Mr. Vy said.
According to Mr. Vy, to ensure the team could focus on training and competing, the Standing Committee of the Tuyen Quang Provincial Labor Union provided financial support for training, uniforms, nutrition, and moral support for the players.
Many businesses and organizations where the players work, such as hospitals, steel companies, paper companies, and garment factories, have flexibly arranged shifts so that employees can both train and earn a living. However, assembling a team is not easy when the players come from so many different professions.
"There are doctors on emergency duty, and steel and paper workers work in shifts. Garment workers are rushing to meet order deadlines, so finding overlapping schedules to assemble a team is the most difficult thing," Mr. Vy shared.

The team representative stated that although this was their first time participating in the tournament organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, they had observed the significant impact of this competition in the previous season. After each season, the football movement at grassroots trade unions in Tuyen Quang has developed more strongly. For example, many mini-football fields and artificial turf pitches in factory areas are fully booked after work hours.
"The tournament not only creates a sporting arena but also serves as a bridge between businesses and employees. Business owners see the joy and camaraderie among their workers, leading them to pay more attention to sports activities and employee welfare," he said.
Representatives of the Tuyen Quang Trade Union also expressed their gratitude to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Tuoi Tre newspaper. For maintaining a meaningful platform for workers.
"The 2026 Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Tournament is not only a sporting event but also a celebration honoring those who directly work, produce, and contribute to society, especially during Workers' Month 2026," Mr. Ha Van Vy expressed.
In 2026, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Tuoi Tre newspaper, and the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will continue to jointly organize the Vietnam Workers and Public Employees Football Tournament. Entering its fourth season, the tournament brings together 48 teams from all over the country, further affirming its position as a prestigious annual event for workers, public employees, and laborers nationwide. This contributes to promoting physical training and sports, and improving the cultural and spiritual lives of workers in particular and society as a whole.
Notably, this is the fourth consecutive season that the Vietnam Workers and Employees Football Tournament has been honored to receive the support of its diamond sponsor - Truong Hai Group (THACO). The commitment of THACO, along with its partners such as Dong Luc Sports Group, Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam, Vietnam Cable Television Corporation (VTVcab), FPT Television Company Limited (FPT Play), and many other businesses, has contributed to strongly spreading the humanitarian values, solidarity spirit, and community significance of the tournament.
A press conference announcing the tournament is scheduled for May 20, 2026. Immediately following, the Northern regional qualifiers will be held from May 21 to 24 in Hanoi; the Southern regional qualifiers will take place from June 6 to 9 in Ho Chi Minh City. The season will conclude with the national finals, tentatively scheduled to be held in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of July 2026.
