Every December evening, when the clock strikes 6:45 p.m., Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral lights up with the ringing of bells, transforming the Paris Commune Square into a magical light stage. This event, marking the third Christmas season since the building was restored, has quickly become an unmissable meeting place for city residents and tourists.

Impressive light show
The highlight of this year's festive season is the decoration system using up to 1,000 km of LED lights, an impressive number double that of last year. The warm yellow light strips not only cover the campus but are also shaped into unique motifs such as globes, stars and bells along the tiled roof. In particular, the two iconic zinc towers of the church are also decorated with LED lights in the shape of pine trees, bringing a strong Christmas atmosphere.
The entire lighting system uses modern LED technology, does not emit heat, ensuring the safety of trees and the structure of the project under renovation, while helping to save operating costs. Inside the campus, a grotto and miniature scenes recreating the story of the Nativity were also set up, attracting many families and children to visit.

Suggested ideal sightseeing spots
To get the most panoramic and spectacular view, many people have chosen the upper floor lobby of a nearby shopping mall as a photo-hunting spot. From here, visitors can take in the entire brilliant beauty of the church when the lights are on. However, because this area is free to enter, the crowd is often very large, requiring you to arrive at least an hour early to get a good spot.
If you like a bustling atmosphere, you can join the crowd right in the square. The area in front of the statue of Our Lady of Peace is where many people choose to sit, chat and enjoy the festival atmosphere. This is also an ideal place to take close-up photos of ancient architecture.

Notes when visiting
As the night progresses, the number of people flocking to the Notre Dame Cathedral area increases, often causing local congestion on nearby roads such as Dong Khoi, Cong Xa Paris and Le Duan. Visitors should consider using public transport or parking further away to walk in.
The official Christmas masses will be held on December 24 and 25, when the church is expected to receive the largest number of visitors.

Timeless architectural imprint
Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon began construction in 1877 and was completed after three years. With its unique Romanesque Gothic architecture, it is not only an important religious building but also an architectural and cultural symbol of the city. In 1959, the church was conferred the title of minor basilica by the Vatican, further affirming the historical and spiritual value of the building.
