Having just completed a journey of over 8,000 km from Buenos Aires to prepare for their campaign to defend their title at the 2026 World Cup, the Argentine national team received a harsh "greeting" from nature. Based in Kansas City (Missouri), Lionel Scaloni's team endured anxious hours as a major storm accompanied by tornadoes swept through the area.

At around 1:45 AM, the blaring tornado sirens woke Messi and his teammates. The tremendous wind completely tore down the protective fences bearing the Argentinian emblem around the hotel.

Footage from the scene shows fallen trees and torn-up barriers, creating a scene of devastation at the world champion's training camp. An interesting detail noted by local reporters is that the giant poster of Messi hanging outside the hotel remained intact after the fury of nature.

Despite the unexpected incident, the Argentine team quickly stabilized and began their first training session at the Compass Minerals National Performance Center. According to the schedule, the "Albiceleste" will have two warm-up friendly matches against Honduras in Texas and Iceland in Alabama before officially entering the tournament.

In the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, Argentina will face Algeria (June 17), Austria (June 23), and Jordan (June 28). If they play to their potential, Scaloni's team could very well advance to the next round as group J winners.
