Musician Le Anh Tu (Ho Chi Minh City Music Association) informed Tuoi Tre Online that musician Vinh Lai, born in 1942 and a member of branch 6, passed away on February 19 due to a stroke.

The late musician's wife passed away a long time ago, and since they had no children, his family brought her back to their family land in Can Giuoc district, Long An province, for burial on February 20th.

According to the Vietnam Musicians Association, composer Vinh Lai, whose real name was Vo Thanh Khoi, was born in 1942 and previously worked at Ho Chi Minh City Television.

In 2012, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts.

Composer Vinh Lai has many popular songs that are widely known, such as: "Niềm tin" (Belief), "Bóng cây ơn Người" (The Tree's Gratitude), "Về nguồn" (Returning to the Source), "Nơi này tôi yêu" (This Place I Love), "Bến cảng chiều về!" (Evening Harbor!), "Sài Gòn tình ca" (Saigon Love Song), "Let's go home", "Song to Americans"...

In addition, he also wrote many choral works, film scores, stage music, etc.

The symphony "Eastern Fortress" by the late composer Vinh Lai was awarded a prize by the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association in 2016.
