Match preview: PSG vs Atalanta
Luis Enrique's reign continues to usher in a great era for PSG. Last season, the Spanish coach led his young team to a treble by securing a dominant top spot in Ligue 1, followed by the French Cup, and finally a well-deserved victory in the Champions League.
After winning the treble in their first season, they continued to impress at the FIFA Club World Cup. The Parisian club overcame a host of giants to reach the final of the tournament in the United States. Sadly, their defeat against Chelsea ended their dream of an unprecedented quadruple.
But they quickly regained their footing. After a short summer break, PSG easily defeated Tottenham to win the UEFA Super Cup and have since continued to dominate French football. They secured two 1-0 victories at the start of the 2025/26 season before scoring six goals against Toulouse.
Last weekend, the club continued its dominance against Lens. Bradley Barcola's brace helped the team comfortably defeat their opponents 2-0, allowing them to confidently embark on their journey to defend their Champions League title.

PSG vs Atalanta form and head-to-head history
On the other side of the battlefield, Atalanta is actually not in such a comfortable position. This past summer saw a lot of upheaval within the team. After failing in several transfer deals, they pulled off a move that provoked a reaction from their own fans: bringing in coach Ivan Juric.
This is arguably one of the worst managers in Premier League history. While managing Southampton, he only achieved a mere 0.29 points per game. This disastrous run contributed to Southampton's rapid relegation. With a manager who only gets one point in three games, Atalanta clearly cannot feel confident entrusting the club to such a coach.
The reality on the pitch shows that Juric is struggling with Atalanta. Since the start of the season, his team has only won 1 out of 3 matches. Looking further back, Atalanta has only won 1 of their last 6 games.
Furthermore, Juric's conflict with Ademola Lookman also cost him points. Lookman wanted to leave, but instead of selling him to reinvest the money, he is now being held captive at the club. He has been excluded from Atalanta's squad, wasting a talent while still having to pay his salary.
Facing the reigning champions, who have won all four of their matches since the start of the season, Atalanta will face a truly challenging task.
