The total number of seats offered on international and domestic routes from January 14th to February 12th, 2025 has reached over 7 million.

In the period leading up to the holiday (January 21-28, 2025), the booking rate on flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other provinces and cities mostly reached over 50%.

Some flight routes have high booking rates (90-100%) on the days from January 23-26, 2025, such as Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Quang Binh , Thanh Hoa, and Vinh.

On routes from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi and Da Nang, there is still ample ticket supply with booking rates ranging from 20-50%.

Typically, the Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi flight on January 25, 2025 (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month) had the highest booking rate throughout the period, but it only reached 62%. In the opposite direction, from other provinces and cities to Ho Chi Minh City, booking rates on most flights ranged from 15-30%.

During the final period of the holiday (February 1-7, 2025), the booking rate on flights from local areas back to Ho Chi Minh City was high, reflecting the typical air transport activity as in previous years. Some days were fully booked with rates exceeding 90% to 100%, such as flights from Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Thanh Hoa , Quy Nhon, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, and Buon Ma Thuot to Ho Chi Minh City.

On domestic flights during the Lunar New Year 2025, ticket prices also vary. In the period leading up to the holiday, Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities are currently more expensive than those in the opposite direction . A survey of ticket prices (including taxes and fees) for economy class on January 21, 2025 (the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month), for the Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi route – the most frequent and busiest route – shows that Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways offer tickets at approximately 3.7 million VND. Vietjet Air offers tickets at nearly 3.1 million VND. Vietravel Airlines' prices range from 3.1 to 3.4 million VND.

Meanwhile, for the return trip from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, the ticket prices announced by airlines are significantly lower. Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air charge around 1.1-1.4 million VND, Bamboo Airways around 1.1 million VND, and Vietravel Airlines around 0.9 million VND.

For flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Thanh Hoa, Vietnam Airlines offers tickets at 3.7 million VND, while Vietjet Air offers tickets at around 3.1 million VND. In the opposite direction, Vietnam Airlines tickets cost approximately 0.9 million VND, while Vietjet Air offers tickets for 0 VND (excluding taxes and fees), which is about 0.6 million VND after taxes and fees are included.

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Quy Nhon on this day were priced at 2.5 million VND by Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways, while Vietjet Air had tickets at around 2.4 million VND. In the opposite direction, Vietnam Airlines offered tickets at around 0.8 million VND, Vietjet Air at 0 VND (approximately 0.6 million VND including taxes and fees), and Bamboo Airways had tickets at around 0.7 million VND.

As the holiday period approaches, airfares from various airlines are fluctuating. A survey of departure dates near January 25th, 2025 (the 26th day of the 12th lunar month) shows that on the Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi route, Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways are offering tickets around 3.7 million VND/one-way, while Vietjet Air and Vietravel Airlines are recording prices around 3.7 million VND/one-way, an increase of about 10-20% compared to the period before the holiday. For the return trip, airlines are still offering lower fares, similar to previous days.

Towards the end of the holiday period, ticket prices reversed, with higher fares appearing on flights from local areas to Ho Chi Minh City. A survey of ticket prices on February 2nd, 2025 (the last day of the holiday), for the Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City route, showed Vietnam Airlines tickets priced at 3.7 million VND.

Vietjet Air offers fares of around 3.6-3.7 million VND, and Vietravel Airlines is similarly priced at around 3.7 million VND. Meanwhile, in the reverse direction, airlines offer lower fares of 1.5-2.0 million VND for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi.

On the flight route from Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City, both Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways offer tickets at approximately 3.7 million VND. For the return flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Vietnam Airlines' fares range from 1.9-2.1 million VND, Vietjet Air around 1.2 million VND, while Bamboo Airways maintains a price of approximately 3.1-3.7 million VND per one-way trip.

As can be seen, ticket prices reflect the booking rates on domestic routes during the Lunar New Year period.

Accordingly, flights from the South to the North will have higher booking rates and ticket prices compared to flights from the North to the South at the beginning of the holiday period. This will reverse at the end of the holiday.

According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority, this is a noticeable characteristic on routes between major cities (Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi) and other localities nationwide, reflecting the "skewed" nature of air transport operations that develops during the Lunar New Year or other long holiday periods throughout the year.

The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority stated that it will continue to monitor market developments to direct and coordinate with airlines and airports to add flights on high-traffic routes. This will help regulate airfares and meet the travel needs of passengers during the upcoming Lunar New Year peak season.
