To help detainees cope with the unusually hot weather in the early days of the season, the Supervisory Board of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police Detention Center has implemented many effective heat relief measures, demonstrating the profound humanity and responsibility of the police force in detention management.

These days, the weather in Ha Tinh province is entering a period of intense heat, with outdoor temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius at many times. In this prolonged period of harsh weather, besides ensuring absolute security and safety at the detention facility, the Ha Tinh Provincial Police Detention Center has proactively implemented many effective heat mitigation measures for detainees and those under temporary detention.

The Hà Tĩnh Police Detention Center has installed a system of shade nets to protect the courtyards from the heat.

In the detention cell areas, the unit has installed heat-resistant netting in the courtyards and corridors; increased the number of electric fans and misting fans; and regularly watered the grounds and courtyards to reduce ambient temperatures. Simultaneously, correctional officers have intensified inspections of living conditions, promptly reminding and guiding detainees to maintain their health in extreme weather conditions. These solutions have proven effective, significantly reducing temperatures in the detention cells and creating a more stable living environment for detainees during peak hot days.

Install awnings over the windows to reduce the amount of heat absorbed from the outside sun into the prison cell.

Prisoner Nguyen Van S., from Loc Ha commune, currently detained at the Ha Tinh Provincial Police Detention Center for 5 months, said that despite the prolonged hot weather, the detention center staff have implemented many effective measures to combat the heat, such as installing canopies, spraying mist, and regularly watering the cells, significantly reducing the temperature inside. “As detainees, we feel the special attention and support from the detention center's management in our daily lives. This has helped us recognize our mistakes and motivate us to reform and improve ourselves, hoping for the day we can return to a better life,” prisoner S. shared.

In addition to focusing on ensuring comfortable living conditions, the Ha Tinh Provincial Police Detention Center is also strengthening medical services and monitoring the health of detainees, especially those with underlying medical conditions or weak health, in order to proactively prevent potential risks caused by the hot weather.

The unit also installed additional fans in the hallways to reduce the heat during the summer months.

Major Nguyen Van Hai, a correctional officer, added that, recognizing this year's hot season will be prolonged and the weather more extreme than in previous years, the unit has proactively developed a plan to implement comprehensive solutions to combat the heat for detainees and prisoners. In addition to installing more fans, misting systems, and sunshades, correctional officers regularly inspect the cell conditions, provide sufficient drinking water, and remind detainees and prisoners to maintain personal hygiene and prevent heatstroke and heat exhaustion. This contributes to stabilizing the morale and ensuring the health of those under the unit's management.

Implementing heat mitigation measures not only helps stabilize the mental and physical health of detainees but also clearly demonstrates the humane nature of the detention management system within the People's Public Security Force.
