Several Asian airlines said on May 7 they were rerouting or canceling flights to and from Europe due to fighting between India and Pakistan.
For safety reasons, Taiwanese airline EVA Air has diverted flights to and from Vienna.
Meanwhile, Korean Air has avoided Pakistani airspace for flights between Incheon (South Korea) and Dubai (United Arab Emirates).
Taiwan's China Airlines said it had activated its contingency plan and "taken a series of measures to ensure the safety of passengers and crew."
Amid ongoing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following precision airstrikes by the Indian army on terror camps in Pakistan, Air India and Air India Express have also cancelled all flights to and from certain locations in the country till noon on May 7 (local time).
On social media X, Air India announced that flights from Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot will be cancelled until further notice and updates from the authorities. Two international flights en route to Amritsar are being diverted to Delhi.
On the same day, Spicejet posted a notice on social media X that airports including Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar and Amritsar would be closed until further notice, stating that departure, arrival and onward flights would also be affected.
Airlines also ask passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and check flight status before departure.
Early on May 7, India fired missiles at multiple locations in Pakistan, including the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region, amid escalating tensions between the two neighboring countries.
India's Ministry of Defense said that India's military action was "focused, measured and non-escalatory" and that "no Pakistani military installations were targeted." A total of nine locations were targeted, according to the statement.
Soon after, the Pakistani military confirmed that India had launched air-to-surface missile attacks on five locations in Pakistan, including Kotli, Ahmadpur East, Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Muridke.
According to the Pakistani military, the attack killed at least three civilians, including a child, and injured 14 others. A state of emergency has been declared in hospitals. Pakistan has temporarily closed its airspace.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Islamabad was giving a “strong response” to what he described as “an act of war” by India. He called on “the entire country to stand with the Pakistani armed forces.”
Pakistan's military spokesman, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said Pakistan would respond at a time and place of its "chosen" choice.
