Many medical and pharmaceutical schools are opening new majors and increasing enrollment quotas.

Medical and pharmaceutical universities have begun announcing their 2025 admission plans with several noteworthy new points.

Hanoi Medical University plans to enroll students in Medical Imaging Technology and Social Work programs starting in 2025. According to Associate Professor Dr. Le Dinh Tung, Vice Rector of Hanoi Medical University, the opening of these two new training programs is considered a significant change. Both programs are well-suited to the university's infrastructure and training capacity.

Regarding admission combinations, it is highly likely that universities will have to adjust their admission combinations if the draft circular on university admission regulations is officially issued. This is because, according to the draft, training institutions will have to convert all combinations and admission methods to an equivalent scoring scale.

Regarding admission methods, the school plans to maintain the same approach as last year, including: direct admission, admission based on high school graduation exam scores, admission combining high school graduation exam scores with international foreign language certificates, and admission based on the Hanoi National University's aptitude test scores (HSA).

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy ( Hue University) plans to recruit nearly 1,700 students, adding the D07 (Mathematics, Chemistry, English) and A02 (Mathematics, Biology, Physics) admission combinations in 2025.

This is the first time the A02 subject group has been used by the university for admission to multiple majors such as Preventive Medicine, Traditional Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, etc. Similarly, the Pharmacy major is adding the D07 subject group for admission for the first time.

The three proposed admission methods include: admission based on high school graduation exam scores; admission based on a combination of high school graduation exam scores and English language certificates; and direct admission. Of these, the combined admission method will only apply to the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy.

Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine plans to increase enrollment quotas for several majors in 2025: Traditional Medicine by 20%; Nursing by 10%; and Pharmacy by 30%. Enrollment quotas for other majors will remain unchanged.

Regarding admission methods, this year the school plans to implement six admission methods, including: high school graduation exam results; direct admission according to the regulations of the admission rules; using the results of aptitude and thinking assessment exams organized by other units for admission; using only international certificates for admission; combining high school graduation exam results with international certificates for admission; and using other methods.

Meanwhile, in 2024, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine only implemented 3 admission methods: Admission based on high school graduation exam results; direct admission; and priority admission.

A new feature in this year's admissions season is that the school will not include a foreign language subject as a supplementary criterion when considering equal scores, unlike in previous years. The subject combinations for admission based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores remain unchanged, including B00 (Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology), A00 (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), and B03 (Mathematics, Biology, Literature).

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) plans to introduce an additional admission method for students who already hold a university degree, allowing them to apply for medical and pharmaceutical programs starting in 2025. For these students, the medical program will be a 4-year program, while the pharmaceutical program will be a 3-year program.

Tokyo Medical University Vietnam admits students through three admission methods: admission based on the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam; admission based on the university's own plan (including direct admission based on high school academic results; admission based on academic transcripts with a presentation and interview; admission based on academic transcripts with a JLPT Japanese language proficiency certificate); and direct admission for national award winners.

This includes a new method combining foreign language certificates and academic transcripts, which will be applied from 2025.

The school plans to enroll 266 students across all majors. Specifically, the Nursing major will have 110 places; the Rehabilitation Technology major will have 80 places; the Medical Laboratory Technology major will have 38 places; and the Medical Imaging Technology major will have 38 places.

In the draft revised regulations for university and college admissions in early childhood education , the Ministry of Education and Training plans to raise the minimum quality standards for admission to teacher training and medical/pharmaceutical programs that grant professional practice certificates.

Specifically, from 2025 onwards, applicants for these majors must have academic results of "good" or higher in all three years of high school, or a graduation exam score of 8 or higher.

Some majors have lower minimum admission requirements, such as: Physical Education, Music Education, Fine Arts Education, Early Childhood Education (college level), and Nursing, Preventive Medicine, Midwifery, Dental Prosthetics Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, and Rehabilitation Technology. Candidates need to have a GPA of "good" or higher in all three years of high school, or a graduation exam score of 6.5 or higher.

If high school academic results are used for admission, then the results for the entire 12th grade year must be used. Schools can use an unlimited number of subject combinations for admission instead of the current four, but will be restricted by the required scores for each subject.
