The dedicated port area of the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant was bustling with activity as ships exported finished products throughout the Tet holiday.
On the afternoon of February 20th (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year), the VLCC No. 270 (a very large crude oil tanker), 333m long, bearing the designation DHT JAGUAR and flying the Marshall Islands flag, safely docked at Nghi Son Port, concluding its 17-day journey across the Indian Ocean to deliver crude oil to the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant. To welcome this special vessel, from February 18th (the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year), PTSC Thanh Hoa Services Joint Stock Company (PTSC Thanh Hoa) had been preparing and maintaining the SPM system, checking all machinery, equipment, fuel, fresh water, logistics, and personnel plans to ensure everything was ready for the VLCC No. 270 to dock, anchor, and safely unload its cargo.
Mr. Do Van Hai, Deputy Head of the Ship Management and Maintenance Operations Department, in charge of managing the PTSC Thanh Hoa fleet, said: "During the Lunar New Year holiday, the unit deployed 103 officers, crew members, and personnel to work throughout the holiday. Operational plans were developed in detail according to each situation, from towing finished product vessels, ensuring water security to assisting in receiving large crude oil tankers, with the general spirit of ensuring that no process is interrupted during the holiday."
With a modern fleet of newly built vessels, high-standard engines and equipment imported from the EU, the US, and the G7, PTSC Thanh Hoa is currently operating and providing tugboat and specialized vessel services to the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant and other port areas within the Nghi Son Economic Zone safely and efficiently. By 2025, the unit's revenue is projected to exceed VND 1,391 billion; the fleet will safely support 1,350 vessels in the port area and 44 VLCC vessels at the SPM buoy. The Nghi Son Vessel Project has surpassed 3.2 million safe working hours, affirming the strict operational discipline and safety culture built sustainably in this unique working environment.
On the afternoon of the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, PTSC Thanh Hoa Port also opened for business. Stone-carrying vessels from Geo Pacific Import-Export Co., Ltd., the Thinh An 06 vessel, and the Serpentine Cuong Thinh 36 vessel from Hoang Ngan Co., Ltd. began docking at the port to load and unload cargo, creating a vibrant working atmosphere right from the first days of the new year. PTSC Thanh Hoa's staff and workers started working with enthusiasm and urgency to ensure the vessels departed the port on schedule.
The dedicated port area of the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Plant was also bustling during the Tet holiday with ships importing and exporting finished products operating throughout the holiday period. On average, during the peak of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, about 30,000 cubic meters of petroleum products were supplied to the market each day, contributing to ensuring the energy supply for production, goods circulation, and people's consumption needs.
At Long Son - Bai Ngoc Port, production activities continued throughout the Tet holiday. Ships carrying cement and clinker still departed, heading towards international markets. Logistics and delivery were coordinated smoothly by various units, ensuring export schedules were met and preventing any disruptions to the supply chain during the extended Tet holiday.
To ensure smooth customs clearance, the Nghi Son Port Customs force maintained a constant presence throughout the Tet holiday. According to Mr. Le Anh Tuan, Team Leader of Nghi Son Port Customs, during the Tet holiday, the unit arranged its officers and staff into three shifts to promptly handle administrative procedures for import and export businesses. Besides ensuring timely customs clearance, all operational procedures were strictly implemented, and efforts were intensified to promote preferential policies for foreign cargo ships passing through Nghi Son Port.

The ship docked at PTSC Thanh Hoa Port, marking the start of the new year's trading season on the afternoon of the 4th day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse).
With 28 berths in the South and North Nghi Son areas now operational, Nghi Son Port currently handles over 56 million tons of cargo annually – a figure far exceeding the forecast in the detailed planning of the North Central coastal port group. The port's expanding scale not only affirms its role as the province's logistics "gateway" but also becomes a crucial driving force for steady and breakthrough growth in budget revenue in recent years. For example, in 2025, budget revenue from import and export activities in the province is expected to reach over 20,600 billion VND, with 98% contributed by activities at Nghi Son Port. Along with traditional goods such as cement, plastic pellets, and limestone, the port is gradually expanding its operations to include high value-added goods such as containers, steel, seafood, and textiles, contributing to a shift in the cargo structure towards a more modern and balanced approach between "quantity" and "quality".
According to the plan for 2030, Thanh Hoa province is expected to invest approximately 21,900 billion VND in port infrastructure development, building 24 ports with 57-65 berths, increasing handling capacity to approximately 71.65-86.15 million tons of goods per year. The Department of Construction is coordinating with specialized agencies of the Ministry of Construction to finalize the pre-feasibility study report for the investment project to dredge the shipping channel into Nghi Son Port area, with a total investment of approximately 5,200 billion VND...
Infrastructure expansion, combined with preferential policies and improved logistics services, is gradually attracting more international shipping lines and container shipping routes. A prime example is the newly established Hai Phong - Nghi Son coastal route, which helps reduce pressure on road transport, save logistics costs, and increase the competitiveness of the province's export goods in the regional supply chain.
From a humble local port on Nghi Son Bay, after more than two decades of development, Nghi Son Seaport has transformed into a strategic trade gateway for the North Central region. Closely linked to the formation and development of the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Nghi Son Port is not only a transit point for goods, energy, and industrial materials, but is also gradually becoming a modern maritime logistics center with strong regional connectivity, possessing full potential to become a bright spot in Vietnam's port and logistics network in the near future.
