Unforgettable song
On April 30, 1975, the whole nation witnessed the sacred moments of the country, when our army entered the Independence Palace, completely liberating the South and unified North and South.
To achieve glorious victory, we cannot fail to mention the positive contribution of the cultural and artistic front. During the period of resistance war against the US, to save the country, revolutionary music compositions developed strongly, encouraging the spirit of soldiers and people.
In the southern bases, the army and people sang heroic melodies such as "Liberating the South", "On the Thien Ly Road", "Spring in the War Zone"... Or the songs on the way to the battlefield became anti-American musical legacies such as: "The Truong Son Stick", "Quang Binh, My Hometown", "Hanoi Song", "The Road We Take"...
And every time April 30th comes, the whole country joyfully joins in singing "As if Uncle Ho were here on the great victory day", "The country is full of joy", "Song of unification", "Singing to celebrate the country today", "Spring in Ho Chi Minh City", "Uncle Ho is marching with us"...
Among them, “Song of Unification” has been successfully performed by many artists. The work was composed by musician Vo Van Di. The time of composition was before April 30, 1975, he and many artists traveled by boat from North to South to perform. Therefore, the song opens with lyrics praising the beauty of the homeland: “The vast sea and sky/Beautiful as brocade/Colorful water and clouds/Ships going North to South”.
Also in those historic April days, musician Hoang Ha heard the news that the Southern Liberation Army was massively advancing towards Saigon, the final moment that gloriously ended the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign. With overwhelming emotions, musician Hoang Ha finished writing the song “The Country is Full of Joy” on the night of April 26, 1975.
He later recounted that that night, in his house in Yen Phu, near West Lake, he seemed to see before his eyes a forest of victory flags. “Walking in the light of thousands of yellow stars and red flags fluttering” was the joy in his soul, the dream of a day of complete joy for the nation. The musician wrote with a premonition and absolute faith in the day of total victory for the country.
Songs that live forever
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, People's Artist Thanh Hoa said she still chokes up and is moved when singing heroic songs about the country and the revolution.
The artist said: “I have sung for my comrades many times, and now I sing for the people. Therefore, besides the pride in the glorious history of the nation, I keep for myself a personal pride as a soldier on the cultural front. Every time I sing these songs, revolutionary songs, I am proud that the contributions of the soldiers of the past are still remembered and appreciated. Immortal melodies such as Song of Reunification, Spring in Ho Chi Minh City, Unforgettable Song… all live forever in the hearts of artists, soldiers and compatriots.
These proud melodies not only made the names of many veteran artists who once wore military uniforms, but also inspired the younger generation of artists, reminding each generation, even though born and raised in peace, to remember a period of brave fighting, determined to defeat the enemy, and regain independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people.
For an artist living in peace like Tung Duong, revolutionary songs still bring special emotions. He has successfully performed many revolutionary songs such as: "The Road We Go", "Youth of Uncle Ho's Generation", "The Country Full of Joy"...
Tung Duong shared: “Personally, I, like many other artists, always have love and respect for revolutionary music, folk music, music with folk melodies, praising the love of the homeland. Every time I sing revolutionary songs, I am always moved and proud.”
