Ben Thanh - Can Gio Railway: Laying the foundation for Vietnam's high-speed rail.
On the morning of December 19th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway line project took place at the Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio mega-urban area (Ho Chi Minh City). This project is considered a pioneering initiative for Vietnam's first high-speed railway.
The route is 54km long, with a maximum speed of 350km/h, starting at Ben Thanh and ending at Vinhomes Green Paradise Can Gio.
Expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2028, the project will not only contribute to the completion of the national railway infrastructure but also create a strong impetus for the development of trade, tourism, real estate, and especially the marine economy of Ho Chi Minh City.
More importantly, this is considered the "first link" in Ho Chi Minh City's journey to open up its development space towards the open sea.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong said that the project realizes the Party's policy in Resolution No. 68 of the Politburo on the development of the private economy, creating a breakthrough in attracting private resources to participate in investing in strategic infrastructure.
This is a transportation infrastructure project of exceptionally large scale and complex engineering, with far-reaching impacts on socio-economic development, the railway industry, and regional connectivity.
The Ben Thanh - Can Gio railway is the first 350km/h high-speed railway project implemented in Vietnam, ushering in a new era for the country's high-speed rail sector.
Notably, the process of preparing and submitting the investment policy for approval took place in a very short time of about 2 months - a record for the time taken to complete the procedure for a project of such large scale and high complexity.
This procedural implementation model will serve as a template for future infrastructure projects in Ho Chi Minh City.
"This is not just an infrastructure project, but a testament to the spirit of innovation – a valuable tradition of the city. It also demonstrates the city government's implementation capacity through seamless coordination between the state and the private sector, in line with Resolution 68," Mr. Cuong emphasized.
With a commitment to completing the project by the fourth quarter of 2028, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee believe that the investor's commitment will be a driving force for the entire political system of the city to work together and resolutely complete the compensation, resettlement support, and land handover work to ensure timely progress.
Ho Chi Minh City will continue to work closely with and coordinate with investors, expediting administrative procedures and creating favorable conditions for them to implement their projects.
At the same time, the city will closely monitor the investor's project implementation process; the fulfillment of commitments on environmental protection, ecosystem preservation, and community responsibility, ensuring harmonious development between the economy and nature, in line with sustainable development principles.

Overcoming challenges to create the highest standard airport.
At 8:20 AM on December 19th, Vietnam Airlines' Boeing 787 aircraft, flight number VN1, carrying Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh and nearly 100 passengers, successfully landed at Long Thanh Airport after departing from Noi Bai Airport.
Next, two narrow-body aircraft from Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways departed from Tan Son Nhat Airport and landed at Long Thanh Airport. Each aircraft carried the flight crew and technical staff.
Mr. Vu The Phiệt, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ACV, said that at this significant moment, Long Thanh Airport successfully welcomed its first three flights.
"These are not just ordinary flights, but flights carrying the aspirations, beliefs, and will to rise of the nation after a long journey full of effort and challenges," Mr. Phiệt said.
According to ACV, the investment scale is for a 4F-class airport (the highest class of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO) with a passenger terminal capacity of 25 million passengers/year, 1.2 million tons of cargo, and accompanying synchronized technical infrastructure.
This is a very large project, not only in terms of investment scale and high technical requirements, but also in terms of strategic vision, playing a role as a driving force for the socio-economic development of the country.
To make the first flight possible, the Dong Nai provincial government, the investor ACV, and many contractors, engineers, and workers overcame numerous challenges.
This is a massive land clearance project that directly affects the lives of tens of thousands of people.

"Through intelligence, discipline, and a sense of responsibility, the contractors and construction units have transformed the blueprints on paper into a modern and impressive airport that stands as a source of pride," Mr. Phiệt said.
The 855,000 billion VND project is expected to contribute to the urban reconstruction of Hanoi.

On December 19th, along An Duong Vuong Street in the area bordering the Red River, the Hanoi People's Committee, together with a consortium of contractors, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Red River scenic boulevard. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the ceremony.
The project to build the Red River scenic boulevard has a preliminary total investment of approximately 855,000 billion VND, implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The project covers an area of approximately 11,000 hectares, stretching from Hong Ha Bridge to Me So Bridge, within the administrative boundaries of 19 communes and wards of Hanoi City.
The investment scale includes a major transportation artery approximately 80km long; a system of landscaped parks and recreational areas covering approximately 3,300 hectares; and approximately 2,100 hectares of land to be cleared for urban reconstruction and development. The project is divided into four independent component projects.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Vu Dai Thang, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, said that this is a particularly important project with strategic significance for the long-term development of the capital city.
Upon completion, the Red River scenic boulevard will not only be a transportation project, but will also create a modern cultural, ecological, and landscaped space; ensure flood safety; and contribute to urban reconstruction and improve the quality of life for residents.
"Hanoi is committed to focusing on decisive direction, closely coordinating with central ministries and agencies and relevant units; ensuring the project is implemented on schedule, with quality and efficiency; and strictly complying with all legal regulations."
"We place special emphasis on the legitimate rights and interests of the people in the project area," the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee stated.
