Deeply committed to the spirit of "Discipline - Responsibility - Action - Creativity - Development," from the beginning of the year, the Party committees and authorities of Thanh Hoa City have embarked on their tasks with great determination and high responsibility. As a result, in 2024, the city's socio -economic development continued to progress with many outstanding achievements in all fields.
Out of 37 targets for 2024, Thanh Hoa City achieved 19 targets exceeding the plan and 15 targets meeting the plan. A highlight of 2024 was the city's state budget revenue reaching VND 4,158.8 billion, achieving 141% of the provincial target and 118% of the city's assigned target. Total production value reached VND 81,220 billion, ranking second in the province (after Nghi Son town) and accounting for 18.4% of the province's total production value. The growth rate of production value reached 10.25%, an increase of two ranks compared to 2023 and ranking fourth in the province (after Sam Son City, Nghi Son town, and Bim Son town)...
Playing a crucial role in the economy, industrial and handicraft production experienced positive growth. The value of industrial and construction production reached VND 53,101 billion, an increase of 10.44% compared to the same period last year. In industrial development, the city attracted 5 secondary investment projects with a total registered capital of VND 161 billion. In addition, the city coordinated with investors to hold the groundbreaking ceremony for the Northeast Industrial Cluster project, covering nearly 20 hectares with a total investment of VND 156 billion; and commenced construction on 4 key projects: the Children's Cultural Center; the upgrading and renovation of Hoi An Park; the North-South railway overpass; and the expansion of Le Loi Boulevard, from Phu Son intersection to Dong Bridge, with a total investment of over VND 2,000 billion. During the year, the city promoted and encouraged the establishment of 1,475 businesses (achieving 100.34% of the provincial plan).
Export activities also reflect the flourishing economy. In 2024, despite facing many difficulties, the total value of goods exported from the city reached US$1,825 million, an increase of 25.5% compared to the same period, accounting for 27.5% of the province's export value. Key export products such as frozen shrimp, frozen squid, ready-made clothing, and leather shoes saw significant increases. Within the city, 139 units participated in exporting various goods; key export products continued to grow, traditional markets remained stable, and new markets expanded with export volumes significantly higher than the same period.
The trade and service sector has become a driving force for the development of other economic sectors. In 2024, total retail sales of goods and revenue from service industries reached VND 49,117 billion, ranking first in the province. Transportation services experienced positive growth due to the strong recovery of tourism and the increased demand for transportation to serve production and import/export of goods. Tourism activities were closely linked to festivals and cultural events organized by the province and cities. Notable events included the "Thanh Hoa City - Hoi An City Cultural Week," the "Weekend Rendezvous" program, the opening of Phan Chu Trinh pedestrian street and Lam Son Square cultural space, and a series of cultural and artistic activities celebrating the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd... Thanks to these efforts, the tourism sector achieved impressive results. In 2024, the city welcomed 2,560,000 tourists and visitors, generating a total tourism revenue of 4,800 billion VND.
Following the Prime Minister's approval of the Thanh Hoa urban master plan until 2040, the city has accelerated the progress of developing transitional construction plans from previous years to concretize the Thanh Hoa urban development program. In particular, the city has completed the Thanh Hoa urban classification project, achieving the criteria of a Type I urban area, and this has been approved and recognized by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 795/QD-TTg dated August 5, 2024; and completed the report assessing the level of infrastructure development in the area where wards are planned to be established within the Thanh Hoa urban area, which has been recognized by the Ministry of Construction in Decision No. 777/QD-BXD dated August 12, 2024. This was an important basis for the National Assembly Standing Committee to issue Resolution 1238/NQ-UBTVQH15 on October 24, 2024, regarding the merger of Dong Son district into the city and the establishment of wards within the city, opening up new opportunities and creating new momentum and strength for Thanh Hoa City to develop more strongly in the future.
Alongside the bright spots in economic development, the socio-cultural sectors have also seen many positive changes. Social welfare has been taken care of, and the people's living standards have improved. National defense and security, social order and safety have been ensured. Party building and the political system have been strengthened; administrative discipline and order have been improved. The Fatherland Front and other political and social organizations in the city have focused strongly on the grassroots level with many practical and effective activities.
The achievements vividly reflect the fresh new facets of the city's socio-economic development in 2024. Speaking at the 23rd meeting of the City Party Committee's Executive Board held in early November, the Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Council, Le Anh Xuan, emphasized: “These results demonstrate the determination and efforts of all levels and sectors to overcome difficulties, along with the positive contributions of the business community and all strata of the people. This is an important foundation for Thanh Hoa City to strive to successfully complete the goals and tasks set for 2025 – a year of special importance for achieving the goals of the 21st City Party Congress, term 2020-2025, and the city's 5-year socio-economic development plan 2021-2025.”
