Among the players who will participate in the 2023 Asian Cup, Hassan Al Haydos holds the record for the most appearances for a national team, with 175 caps for host nation Qatar.

The striker, currently playing for Al Sadd, helped Qatar win the Asian Cup on home soil in 2019, and he will be making his fourth appearance at the tournament at the age of 34. Previously, striker Hassan Al Haydos featured in the 2011 and 2015 Asian Cups.

India striker Sunil Chhetri ranks second with 145 appearances for the national team, while Iran defender Ehsan Hajisafi is third with 132 caps.

The oldest player

Among the 624 players participating in the 2023 Asian Cup, Thai goalkeeper Siwarak Tedsungnoen will be the oldest player in the tournament. Born on April 20, 1984, the Buriram United goalkeeper will be nearly 40 years old when the tournament begins on January 12. Second is Indian striker Sunil Chhetri, who is only four months younger than Siwarak Tedsungnoen, and Bahraini midfielder Sayed Jaafar is third, having just turned 38.

Youngest player

Many promising young talents are expected to make their mark in Qatar this time. Among these rising talents, Beknaz Almazbekov from the Republic of Krygyzstan is the youngest player at just 18 years and 6 months old (born June 23, 2005). Two months younger are Montader Madjed of Iraq and Marselino Ferdinan of Indonesia, both born September 9, 2004.

The reigning Malaysian Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta'zim, are the team contributing the most players to their national teams at the 2023 Asian Cup, with 15 players in attendance. Of these, 13 represent the Malaysian national team, while Jordi Amat plays for Indonesia and newcomer Jalil Elias plays for Syria.

At 2 meters tall, Australian defender Harry Souttar is the tallest player at the 2023 Asian Cup. Second on this list is Qatar's defender Homam Ahmed (1.99m tall), while India's Gurpreet Singh, at 1.97m tall, is in third place.

5 teams have no players playing football abroad.

Interestingly, at the 2023 Asian Cup, five teams had no players playing abroad, instead fielding 100% domestic players: India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Vietnam.

Of the five teams mentioned above, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE all have highly competitive national leagues and good compensation packages, so players from these countries have no intention of playing abroad.

Record for most appearances

Japanese defender Yuto Nagatomo's record of 16 appearances at the Asian Cup is very likely to be broken, as both Son Heung-min of South Korea and Ali Mabkhout of the UAE have already played 12 times in the tournament. At the 11-appearance mark in the continental competition are Mat Ryan (Australia), Zhang Linpeng (China), and Ehsan Hajisafi (Iran).
