For most of the men's 400m individual medley final, Nguyen Quang Thuan maintained a convincing lead.

He was the first to touch the wall of the pool with a time of 4 minutes 19 seconds 98, officially breaking the SEA Games record – surpassing the previous record by 1 second. This was a spectacular moment in the swimming arena, marking a major step forward for the swimmer born in 2005.

Besides winning the gold medal, the Vietnamese swimming team also made their mark when Tran Hung Nguyen - one of the brightest stars in men's swimming - finished second with a time of 4 minutes 25 seconds 45, bringing home the silver medal.

The bronze medal went to Malaysian athlete Khai Xin Tan. This double victory helps Vietnam continue to assert its strong position at the 33rd SEA Games.

Quang Thuan's achievement of breaking the SEA Games record is even more significant as he is gradually continuing the legacy of his older sister, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien - a legend with 25 gold medals and the greatest icon of Vietnamese swimming.
