The two semi-final pairings for the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games have been officially revealed after the final round of group stage matches. Vietnam U22 achieved their goal with a 2-0 victory over Malaysia U22, securing first place in Group B and setting up a clash with the Philippines U22 – the group leaders. Hieu Minh and Minh Phuc scored the goals, helping coach Kim Sang-sik's team advance to the semi-finals.

In the other bracket, U22 Thailand secured first place in Group A after a 3-0 victory over Singapore and will face U22 Malaysia – the best-performing second-placed team. Meanwhile, defending champions Indonesia were officially eliminated despite a 3-1 win against Myanmar, due to losing to Malaysia on goal difference.

The semi-finals of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games will take place on December 15th.

Group B of the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games promises many surprises as it brings together three teams with different playing styles: U22 Vietnam, U22 Laos, and U22 Malaysia.

Vietnam U22 is highly rated due to its well-rounded squad and strong technical foundation, but will have to be cautious against Malaysia – a team that is always dangerous in youth tournaments with its physically demanding style of play and intense pressing.

Meanwhile, the Laos U22 team is progressing rapidly, possessing many fast young players capable of making a difference. This is considered an unpredictable group, where even a small mistake could change the course of the game.

According to the original plan, the Vietnam U22 team was scheduled to play Laos U22 on December 4th and Malaysia U22 on December 11th at the Tinsulanon Stadium (Songkhla). However, prolonged heavy rains causing serious damage forced host Thailand to move the entire Group B and 9 other events to Bangkok.

The schedule has also been adjusted, with Vietnam U22's opening match taking place one day earlier, on December 3rd, while the second match remains on December 11th. The semi-finals and final will be held on December 15th and 18th respectively at the Rajamangala Stadium.

Not only did the venue change, but the men's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games also saw a major upheaval when Cambodia withdrew. This left Group A with only two teams, forcing the organizers to move the Singapore U22 team from Group C to take their place. The tournament therefore has 9 teams, divided into 3 groups: A (Thailand, Timor-Leste, Singapore); B (Vietnam, Malaysia, Laos); and C (Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines).

According to the new plan, the Vietnam U22 team will fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Bangkok on the morning of December 1st to complete their final preparations.
