Luong Viet Son Tung (born in 1993) is currently a photojournalist in Hanoi .

Driven by a desire to document the life around him, Luong Viet Son Tung's journey into photography was quite natural. Enjoying capturing everyday moments, especially the emotions of his subjects through his lens, he dedicates much of his time to field trips to various regions.

Upon entering the field of journalism, he realized that a photograph needed not only aesthetic appeal but also information, context, and storytelling depth; from then on, photojournalism became his long-term, serious, and enduring career choice.

Because photojournalism cannot be done quickly or remotely, for certain subjects, to fully capture the content and "capture" all the precious moments, he has to eat and live with the subjects, observing them for days, even weeks, to understand the essence of the story. He avoids staging, does not interfere with the natural course of events, and always allows the subjects to be present in their true lives.

He most fondly remembers working on the photo essay "Those Who Go into the Forest... to Hunt for Poisonous Mosquitoes." Following the subjects directly, he truthfully depicted the silent but dangerous work of preventive health workers who had to go deep into the forest, facing harsh conditions to collect mosquito samples for research and disease prevention. This series of photos won the C Prize at the 2024 National Journalism Awards, not only recognizing their profession but also providing an opportunity to spread the story of those who silently protect public health.

He also created many photo series about labor, sports, and urban life. Among them, the series "Inside the Gymnastics Training Center of Hai Phong City" documented the rigorous training process of young athletes, earning him a Gold Medal at the 2021 Young Photographers Festival. What he cherishes most about this series is its portrayal of the sacrifices made behind the glamour of achievement.

The work "Vietnamese Athletics Creates a Surprise with Bui Thi Nguyen's Gold Medal in the 100m Hurdles" won the Gold Medal at the SEA Games 31 Moments Photo Contest; or "Sunset Falling on a Soldier's Shoulder," capturing a quiet moment of a soldier on the front lines, won third prize at the national art photography contest "Homeland on the Shore of Waves." These are the kinds of moments that are not noisy but contain a lot of emotion, true to the spirit he pursues.

Young photographer Luong Viet Son Tung shared: “Photography records events, authentic glimpses of life, and photojournalism has changed the way I see life: slower, deeper, and more cautious with each frame. For me, each time I press the shutter button, it's not just about capturing an image, but about preserving a part of the truth of the era I'm living in.”
