The attack on the police stations of Ea Ktur and Ea Tiêu communes (Cư Kuin district) on June 11th has sparked public outrage over the audacious actions of the criminals. Besides destroying state and private property, they also brutally took the lives of four police officers, two commune leaders, and three innocent civilians, leaving behind immeasurable grief for those who remain…
The house of martyr Major Tran Quoc Thang (born in 1989, a police officer in Ea Tieu commune) is located deep in a winding alley in Team 5, Village 18, Ea Ktur commune. The old, dilapidated house has been in disrepair for many years; the cramped living room is barely big enough to fit Major Thang's coffin. On the night of June 11th, while on duty with his colleagues at the Ea Tieu commune police station, a group of assailants suddenly attacked with guns and Molotov cocktails, resulting in his and his comrades' deaths. In the eyes of his family, friends, and colleagues, Major Thang was gentle and quiet. He lost his father when he was six years old, and in his thirties, he was still unmarried and was caring for his elderly, frequently ill mother.

The family has five siblings, all of whom are grown up, married, and working far from home. Relatives of Major Thang recount that, out of love for his elderly mother and partly due to difficult family circumstances, he postponed marriage to focus on caring for her. He is the fourth of five siblings, and everyone was happy and proud when he was honored to join the People's Police.
In the afternoon, as Major Thang was laid to rest, hundreds of comrades, relatives, and neighbors gathered around him. Sitting numbly beside her son's coffin, Mrs. Tran Thi Hoa (born in 1960) was speechless, tears streaming down her face. The frail, suffering woman still couldn't believe she had become the mother of a fallen soldier in peacetime. The moment she received her son's "Recognition of Service to the Fatherland" certificate, she fainted from grief, unable to stand and needing assistance. "Why did you leave at such a young age? A white-haired mother burying her young son... who will share a meal with me tomorrow, Thang?" Her heart-wrenching cries filled the entire funeral with sorrow and pain.

Like Major Thang, Major Hoang Trung (born in 1981, a police officer in Ea Ktur commune) also comes from a very difficult family background. In his small, one-story house at the end of a narrow alley in Tan Hoa ward, Buon Ma Thuot city, many relatives, friends, and colleagues gathered from early morning to bid him farewell.
Martyr, Major Hoang Trung, and his wife, Tran Thi Sen, were formerly officers and staff members of the Ministry of Public Security's Cultural School No. 3. After the unit was downsized, Ms. Sen was transferred to work at the Dak Lak Provincial Police Guest House, while Mr. Trung was transferred to work as a police officer in Ea Ktur commune. Working far from home and often having to work night shifts to ensure security and order in the area and maintain peace for the people, Ms. Sen confided that her grief for her husband was multiplied many times over because after work, Mr. Trung also took over the household chores.
For many years, Ms. Sen has suffered from stage 4 kidney failure, but she still tries to work to earn a little extra money to help her husband raise their two children who are at school age. Her elderly mother, nearly 70 years old, is also cared for solely by Mr. Trung. The house the couple and their children live in, built after many years of saving and borrowing, is now old, moldy, and in disrepair. "Because he loved his sick wife, Mr. Trung never hesitated to do anything to help me. In the family, he was an exemplary husband, father, and filial son. The last time we met, he said he would be on duty tonight and would be home tomorrow. But he's gone forever..." - Ms. Sen choked up.
Faced with the grief of losing her husband and her children losing their father, no one could hold back their tears as they witnessed Ms. Pham Thi Nhu Phuong, the wife of fallen soldier Captain Ha Tuan Anh (born in 1989, a police officer in Ea Tieu commune), fainting repeatedly, while her over 3-year-old daughter constantly cried and demanded her mother. Even now, she still cannot believe her husband has sacrificed his life; every time relatives and colleagues come to light incense to bid him farewell, she cries heartbreakingly.
Having worked at the Ea Tiêu Commune Police Station for less than a year, Tuấn Anh often has to leave early and return late because this is a key area with complex security and order issues in Cư Kuin district. His work is busy, so whenever he has free time, he makes sure to take care of his lovely, adorable daughter and help his parents with household chores.
According to relatives, since receiving the news of her husband's murder, Ms. Phuong has been alternating between periods of lucidity and delirium. Whenever she sees a person in a police uniform, she joyfully tells her daughter, "Ah! Dad's home! Dad's home to have dinner with Mom and us!" This heartbreaking story breaks everyone's hearts.

Among the four police officers who died in the June 11th attack in Cu Kuin district, Captain Nguyen Dang Nhan (born in 1994, a police officer in Ea Ktur commune) was the youngest. Those who knew Nhan all praised him as a friendly, enthusiastic young police officer who always dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his assigned duties.
Since the tragic incident, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hanh, the mother of fallen soldier Nhan, has been unable to stand. Her obedient and gentle son is gone forever, and the family meals will now be missing a member. Receiving the Certificate of Recognition from the State for her beloved son, she affirmed: “This pain and loss are immense, but the family will always be proud of our son, the young captain who sacrificed his youth and life to protect the peace of the people and the Fatherland.”

Besides the four police officers who died while on duty at the commune police station, the passing of martyr Nguyen Van Dung, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Ea Tieu commune, and martyr Nguyen Van Kien, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Ea Ktur commune, also left immeasurable sorrow in the hearts of the people. In the early morning of June 11th, upon receiving news that a group of violent and reckless individuals had attacked the commune police station under their jurisdiction, the officers immediately set off for the scene. Unfortunately, en route, they were brutally murdered by the group.
Throughout their time working in the locality, regardless of their position, Comrade Nguyen Van Kien and Comrade Nguyen Van Dung have always been dedicated and wholeheartedly committed to their work, upholding the role of leaders in carrying out political tasks and developing socio-economic aspects, thereby improving the lives of the people and developing the locality.
They left behind so many unfulfilled plans and ambitions, but their contributions to society and the people throughout their years of service will forever be etched in the hearts of those who remain.
Regarding the attack in Cu Kuin district, on June 11th, General To Lam , Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security, signed a decision to posthumously promote four police officers from Cu Kuin district who died in the attack on the police stations of Ea Tieu and Ea Ktur communes. In addition, Minister To Lam, Chairman of the People's Police Solidarity Fund, also signed a decision to provide 100 million VND per family to the families of the four deceased commune police officers; and 50 million VND per family to the families of the two commune police officers injured while on duty. On June 12th, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Decision No. 684/QD-TTg awarding the "Homeland's Recognition" certificate to 6 martyrs who sacrificed their lives on June 11th, 2023, in the attack on the police headquarters of two communes in Cu Kuin, including 4 martyrs from the Ministry of Public Security and 2 martyrs from Dak Lak province. On June 13th, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union posthumously awarded the "Brave Youth" badge to three police officers and soldiers from Cu Kuin district who bravely sacrificed their lives, and to two police officers and soldiers who were injured while performing their duties to protect security and social order in Cu Kuin district. |
