If someone has ever been to San Francisco, a trip to Busan will evoke many memories. It's the same characteristic sea breeze, the impressive suspension bridges, the marinas, the seaport, the rolling hills and winding roads...

Busan is smaller than San Francisco, but it's also a popular tourist destination. The number of visitors is constantly increasing, especially during popular events like the Busan Fireworks Festival, the Busan International Film Festival, and some of the largest beach festivals in South Korea.

Lost in Gamcheon Village

Gamcheon Culture Village is a destination that contributes to building the brand of Busan's tourism industry. Once considered a slum, Gamcheon has transformed into a creative cultural destination after the Korean Ministry of Tourism implemented an art project there. Following this, Gamcheon received an award for Asian urban landscape, recognized as a comprehensively developed city with sustainable culture, people, and scenery. In recent years, Gamcheon Culture Village has increasingly attracted both Korean citizens and international tourists.

Gamcheon Culture Village is a must-see destination on any trip to Busan.

To fully explore Gamcheon, visitors will need several hours of walking, even though the area isn't particularly large. The narrow, labyrinthine alleyways and the enchanting views from the hilltop will make visitors forget their fatigue. Choosing a high vantage point or the opposite slope, Gamcheon village stands out against the blue sky, with its rows of colorful houses facing the sea.

Navigating through the narrow alleys and cramped staircases of the village, some barely wide enough for one person to pass through, visitors can discover the vibrant tapestry of local life. Every turn offers delightful surprises, from a dazzling mural and a unique art installation to an unexpected encounter with a local.

Alongside the houses still inhabited by residents, many buildings here have been converted into art galleries, restaurants, souvenir shops, and cafes to serve tourists. This place has attracted many artists and art students to unleash their creativity; sometimes even ordinary corners or objects become vibrant and captivating.

If you don't have much time in Gamcheon, you should visit the Tourist Information Center located right at the entrance and ask for a map. Besides providing directions, the map also offers a fun challenge: collecting stamps in the village. If you collect enough stamps, you can exchange them for a unique postcard of Gamcheon. Several photo spots are also prominently marked on the map, such as the photo spot with the "Little Prince and the Fox" statue, representative artworks, and the colorful 148-step staircase...

Experience the flavors of the seaside town.

Returning to Busan is like visiting an old friend, so take the time to reminisce and catch up on new stories. The city always knows how to refresh experiences, aiming to attract visitors to return again and again.

A recently emerging destination in Busan is Haeundae Blue Line Park, known for its many Instagrammable photo spots. The typical scenery includes the railway tracks, colorful train cars, a lighthouse in the distance, and the blue sea. If you're lucky, you might even witness an impressive aerial display in Busan nearby, with spectacular aerobatic planes performing breathtaking maneuvers.

Evening is the time when Busan's beaches, such as Haeundae, Gwangalli, and Songdo, become even more enchanting with the lights from bridges, buildings, signs, and perhaps some low-altitude fireworks. It's also the ideal time for tourists to stroll leisurely along the shore, enjoying the sound of waves and the cool ocean breeze. The lively atmosphere is further enhanced by street performers and the sounds of laughter and toasts from the beachfront restaurants.

Gwangalli Beach is perhaps the perfect destination for an evening in Busan. From noon until 3-4 am, this area offers a wide range of services for tourists, from budget-friendly to upscale, from lively entertainment to tranquil settings. Numerous restaurants and cafes are concentrated here, serving diverse cuisines from around the world , including even Vietnamese eateries.

One of the unique activities at Gwangalli Beach is taking a cruise to watch the sunset and low-altitude fireworks, with the brightly lit Gwangan Bridge as a backdrop. Gwangalli Beach is also where visitors can enjoy the annual Busan International Fireworks Festival (in 2024, the festival will be held in November).

In addition, visitors should definitely visit Jagalchi Seafood Market – an unmissable destination on any Busan trip. This fish market is quite large, divided into several separate sections such as the fresh seafood processing and sales area, the dried seafood area, and the food area for locals and tourists. More than just buying and selling, visitors come to Jagalchi Market to gain a better understanding of the local people's lives, with its bustling sounds and the distinctive fishy smell of seafood.

Opposite the market is a row of bustling food stalls that stay open until midnight. The seafood here is very fresh and prepared quite simply to preserve its original flavor. Although the vendors don't speak English fluently, they are incredibly friendly, especially to Vietnamese tourists, as there are quite a few Vietnamese people studying and living in Busan. With friendly smiles, they are willing to offer discounts or complimentary dishes to tourists.

If you visit Busan in October each year, you can also immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Jagalchi Fish Market Festival – an event celebrating the local fresh seafood industry. There will be parades, people dressed up as fish, cooking competitions, fireworks displays, and the opportunity to enjoy delicious fresh seafood.
