Peace of mind in sturdy houses

In previous rainy seasons, Mrs. Do Thi Van, residing in Group 2, My Lam Ward ( Tuyen Quang City), had to frantically move her belongings to her neighbors' houses for safekeeping. After every heavy rain, her dilapidated single-story house would always be soaked. Partly due to old age and poor health, and partly due to illness and medication, she lacked the strength and money to repair her house, facing numerous difficulties. In response to Mrs. Van's plight, the City's Fatherland Front Committee allocated 50 million VND from the Fund for the Poor to help her build a new house.

Ms. Van shared: "Now, even with storms and heavy rain, I feel less worried living alone than before. I am grateful to the Party committees, the government, the Fatherland Front, philanthropists, and my neighbors for their concern and assistance in building this sturdy house, giving me peace of mind during the rainy season."

Leaders of the City's Fatherland Front Committee presented financial assistance for building a new house to the family of Mr. Nguyen Cong Huu, residing in residential group 1, My Lam ward.

The family of Mr. Ly Van Nguyen, a Dao ethnic minority from Dum village, residential group 11, Nong Tien ward, had been living in a dilapidated house for a long time. His wife had recently given birth, and he was suffering from a serious illness. Understanding Mr. Nguyen's family's situation, the Ward Fatherland Front Committee allocated 5 million VND from the ward's "For the Poor" fund and mobilized 120 laborers to help him demolish the old house. The City Fatherland Front Committee provided 50 million VND to help him build a new house. At the end of December 2023, Mr. Nguyen's new house was completed and put into use. Mr. Nguyen shared: “The Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon 2024 was a joyful and memorable one for my family. Thanks to the care and support of the Fatherland Front at all levels, the local government, and our neighbors, my family was able to build a spacious and comfortable house. A new year, a new house, new joy – these are the driving forces that help my family gain more confidence, overcome serious illnesses, and strive for a better life.”

Mr. Pham Ngoc Hai, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee and Head of the City's Mass Mobilization Department, stated that the activities supporting the poor in building solidarity houses have unleashed the strength of the entire political system, received enthusiastic support from all sectors of the population, and truly yielded practical results. From 2019 to 2023, the city mobilized people to contribute to the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels, totaling over 3.72 billion VND. From 2021 to 2023, the City Fatherland Front Committee allocated funds from the city's "For the Poor" Fund, along with socialized funding mobilized by the Fatherland Front and its member organizations through donations from officials, members, businesses, and benevolent individuals, to build 117 new houses and repair 47 houses for poor and near-poor households. The total cost exceeded 6.7 billion VND and involved over 2,000 man-days of labor. Providing financial support to the poor to build solidarity houses has contributed significantly to boosting their morale, helping them stabilize their lives and work with peace of mind.

The goal is to eliminate all temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025.

The recent Congress of Delegates of the Fatherland Front of Tuyen Quang City for the 2024-2029 term set forth 10 specific targets. Among them, the goal is to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing for poor households in the city by 2025, provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

According to Pham Ngoc Hai, Chairman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Tuyen Quang City, to achieve this target, the City Fatherland Front Committee will continue to lead and coordinate with the government and relevant units to effectively implement the "Eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing for poor households" project in the city, giai đoạn 2021 - 2025; direct the Standing Committee of the Fatherland Front Committees of communes and wards to coordinate with the government to review, assess, and compile a list of poor households with temporary and dilapidated housing that need housing support each year; develop a plan to support the construction of new houses and repair old, damaged, and dilapidated houses for poor households in need each year; and allocate and assign specific targets to the Fatherland Front Committees of 15 communes and wards and member organizations in mobilizing resources for implementation.

The City Fatherland Front Committee will develop and issue a plan to launch a campaign calling on agencies, units, businesses, officials, civil servants, and salaried employees to donate one day's salary to the city's "For the Poor" Fund; continue to connect with businesses, philanthropists, and banks inside and outside the province to provide additional funding for repairing and building new houses for the poor; and manage and utilize the "For the Poor" Fund at all levels in a strict and effective manner. At the same time, it will direct the Fatherland Front Committees of communes and wards to mobilize family members, relatives, and neighbors to contribute additional funds and labor to help poor households complete the construction of spacious and sturdy "Great Unity" houses. This will significantly contribute to achieving the city's sustainable poverty reduction goals.
