Mr. Pham Quoc Thuan cleans the streets, keeping the neighborhood clean and beautiful.
As he slowly pushes a large garbage cart down the street, Mr. Pham Quoc Thuan (an employee of Tan An Urban Development Joint Stock Company, Tay Ninh province) carefully sweeps away trash and leaves from the sidewalk. His faded bucket hat and small water bottle are his inseparable companions throughout his nearly six-year journey.
Mr. Thuan recounted that to keep the streets clean and beautiful, free of leaves and trash, sanitation workers have to take turns sweeping day and night. Sunny days are manageable, but on rainy days, the accumulated trash becomes heavy and waterlogged, making it both dirty and dirty. Furthermore, on streets with food and beverage businesses, the amount of trash is even greater; even if swept clean the night before, it piles up again in the morning. Especially during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the amount of trash increases dramatically, making the workload much heavier.
Despite the arduous nature of the work, Mr. Thuan always maintains a strong sense of responsibility towards his profession: "Every job has its own hardships, but once I've chosen it, I always try my best. Every time I sweep, I carefully observe to ensure I don't miss any trash, keeping the streets as clean as possible. I always feel proud because I'm contributing to protecting the environment and beautifying the streets."
Mr. Tran Hoang Vu and his daily work.
Similarly, Mr. Tran Hoang Vu (an employee of Tan An Urban Joint Stock Company) quietly travels along the streets and parks every day with his familiar water tanker. Every morning or late afternoon, when the engine roars, he begins his work of caring for the green spaces of the city.
Mr. Vu shared: “We always adhere to the watering schedule to ensure the trees grow well. Some days, it's scorching hot, and after watering the trees, I'm drenched in sweat and exhausted by the time I get home. But in return, every time I drive past the road I just watered and see the lush, green trees, I feel happy.”
During holidays and festivals, the number of decorative plants and flowers on display increases many times over. Plant watering workers have to work overtime continuously, day and night, to ensure the plants don't wilt and the flowers don't fade. The work is more demanding and the pressure is higher, but everyone strives to complete their tasks well for a green, clean, and beautiful city.
There are many more people like Mr. Thuan and Mr. Vu who diligently work day and night to preserve the city's green lungs. They contribute to the healthy growth of trees, air purification, temperature regulation, and reduction of fine dust and noise – environmental issues that are becoming increasingly urgent in the process of urbanization.
