Women "racing" for science

Báo Phụ nữ Việt NamBáo Phụ nữ Việt Nam12/12/2024

Over the years, female scientists have played a vital role in the country's innovation efforts. They bring diverse and insightful perspectives to teaching and research. Their dedication not only helps advance science but also inspires the younger generation, especially female students, to pursue academic and research careers.

The three female scientists below all teach at Lac Hong University in Dong Nai province. All three have highly regarded research papers.

A fund to support women's research needs to be established.

Dr. Phan Thi Pham (born in 1984) is currently the Head of the Department of Environmental Science. She has conducted numerous research studies in both applied science and teaching.

Sharing her thoughts on the challenges of doing science, Dr. Phan Thi Pham said: "Women in scientific research face many challenges, especially in balancing work and family life."

Dedicating time to research requires intense concentration and a significant amount of time, while family life also demands care, especially with young children. Besides the support of colleagues and the university, I also receive encouragement from my family, particularly my husband and children, which helps me overcome difficulties and continue contributing to science.

I believe that with passion and perseverance, women can succeed and achieve great things in the field of research."

Dr. Le Thi Thu Huong (born in 1976), Head of the Department of Food Science and Technology, believes that female scientists play a crucial role in promoting educational innovation in Vietnam.

By participating in educational policy planning and training high-quality human resources, female scientists have been contributing to building a sustainable knowledge base, in line with the trend of globalization.

Proposing solutions to improve the effectiveness of scientific research, Dr. Thu Huong hopes for more opportunities for cooperation between scientists and businesses to bring applied research into practice more quickly.

Establishing a research support fund for women would also be an incentive for female scientists to confidently pursue this path.

In addition, to enhance the role of women in science, it is necessary to educate people about gender equality and create a flexible work environment that helps women develop their potential in science.

"I believe that with concerted support from society, women will be important factors contributing increasingly positively to the sustainable development of the country," emphasized Dr. Le Thi Thu Huong.

Work-life balance

Having worked at Lac Hong University for over 10 years, Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh (born in 1985) has a great passion for the field of Pharmacy. As a lecturer and manager of the Faculty of Pharmacy, she has conducted numerous scientific research projects related to medicine and health.

"In my opinion, in scientific research or any aspect of life, men and women have their own advantages and challenges, depending on their individual roles in the family and society," shared Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh.

She admitted to having some difficulty balancing her life. "We all have 24 hours, no one has more than anyone else. But when my child needs me, I will always listen and be there for them. The rest of the time, I will 'race' for science and my work."

"When I'm tired, I always make time to take care of myself, so I have the energy and motivation to continue pursuing my passion," Dr. Nhu Quynh shared.

According to Ms. Nhu Quynh, women's position in society is now no less than that of men. They have made many positive contributions to scientific research and the country's reform efforts. To unleash the potential of women, they need the support and encouragement of their families and society. The government needs to have policies that encourage women to contribute more to science.

"For their part, women themselves must believe in themselves, maintain good health, be strong and loving enough, set goals for themselves, and contribute to the organization and society. Scientific research is first and foremost an idea; more importantly, it's about how to turn that idea into reality."

"This requires collective strength. If we address this well, women will be able to contribute just as much as anyone else, including in the field of scientific research," Dr. Nhu Quynh emphasized.
