Since early morning, hundreds of people have gathered at the Ea Ly commune cultural house to be examined and screened by doctors. The commune People's Committee offices were requisitioned for people to wait for their turn and to avoid the heavy August rain. Most of the people coming for examination are ethnic minorities from Bung A and Bung B villages, the elderly, and people in difficult circumstances. In cases where patients need intensive medical intervention at the hospital, transportation and surgery costs are fully supported by Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital, making everyone feel warm-hearted.
Ms. Nay H Danh (34 years old, Bung A village) said that for many days now her eyes have been painful and blurred, but because her house is far from the medical center and she is busy with farm work, she has not been able to go for a check-up. When she heard that doctors from Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital were coming to the village to examine her, she registered immediately. After being examined and advised on treatment methods, Ms. Nay H Danh said: “The doctors are very attentive and dedicated. Life in the village is still difficult, so people rarely care about their eye health. Today, I received a free check-up, I feel secure and know how to take better care of my eyes.”
From being blind, Ms. La O H'Dam (Bung A village, Ea Ly commune) was able to see after receiving free eye treatment at Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital. |
Doctor CKI Vuong Minh Vu (Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital) said that people who come to have their eyes examined are given a general examination, vision measurement and fundus examination by doctors. During the examination, many cases of common eye diseases such as cataracts, conjunctivitis, pterygium and refractive errors were discovered. In severe cases, the hospital also advised the patient on appropriate treatment methods.
"In addition to professional duties, over the years, the hospital has always actively participated in social security activities. Many meaningful programs have been implemented such as: free medical examination and treatment, giving gifts and health insurance cards to people in difficult circumstances, donating blood, building houses of gratitude... not only in the province but also spreading to many other localities". According to the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ea Ly Commune, Ly Thi Thu Hang, the commune currently has 12 villages and hamlets with 12,104 people, of which ethnic minorities account for more than 70%. Upon receiving information from the Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital about the free eye examination program, the local government deployed it to each village and hamlet so that all people could know and participate. The program has practical significance, helping people in remote areas to access quality medical services right in the locality. This is not only a concern for health but also a great source of encouragement, contributing to improving the quality of life for people in the commune.
The journey to bring bright eyes to people with eye diseases in Ea Ly commune was "departed" by Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital with a "zero-dong bus trip", free transportation, free treatment and medicine, as a gift of charity. Immediately after the examination, all patients with eye diseases that required surgery traveled hundreds of kilometers from the village to Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital (No. 309 Ngo Quyen Street, Tan An Ward) for treatment.
Among the patients who were scheduled for eye surgery this time, Mrs. La O H'Dam (born in 1958, residing in Bung A village) is the most special case. Having lived blind for many years (diagnosed with cataracts and pterygium), Mrs. La O H'Dam's dream was to have bright eyes to see her loved ones. That dream has now come true when doctors performed cataract surgery using the Phaco method, and pterygium surgery using an autologous conjunctival transplant to restore her bright eyes.
On the day Mrs. La O H'Dam was discharged from the hospital, a handwritten letter written by Ms. La O H'Dam (Mrs. La O H'Dam's granddaughter, 42 years old, residing in Bung A village) expressed her sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital, who brought "light to life" to her loved one. "My family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses who organized the free medical examination program. My grandmother had blurred vision for many years, and her life was difficult. Today, after the surgery, she can see clearly again. My grandmother exclaimed: "I am very happy and joyful. Now my eyes can see clearly. Thank you very much to the hospital. Thank you to the doctors for giving me the light to see my children and grandchildren" - Ms. La O H'Dam was grateful.

Sharing the joy with the patients who received free eye treatment, Mr. Ksor Y Soi (78 years old, Ea Ly commune) also just underwent a Phaco lens replacement surgery. Previously, his right eye had cataracts, his vision gradually blurred, making daily activities difficult. "I thought I was too old to see my relatives, but thanks to the doctors, I can see my children and grandchildren clearly, and see my village. I am so happy, so glad, like being given a new pair of eyes" - Mr. Ksor Y Soi confided.
The free eye examination and treatment program for people in Ea Ly commune not only demonstrates the desire to bring bright eyes to people in remote areas but also spreads the spirit of sharing and kindness in the community. This is also an opportunity for people to raise awareness about eye health care, proactively prevent and treat eye diseases early. Thereby creating trust and encouragement for high-quality medical services for people in difficult areas.
