From early morning, hundreds of people gathered at the Ea Ly commune cultural center to receive screening examinations from doctors. The commune's People's Committee offices were repurposed as waiting areas for people to sit and avoid the heavy August rain. The majority of those examined were ethnic minorities from the Bung A and Bung B hamlets, elderly people, and those in difficult circumstances. For patients requiring specialized medical intervention at the hospital, transportation and surgical costs were fully covered by the Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital, which warmed everyone's hearts.

Ms. Nay H Danh (34 years old, from Bung A village) said that for many days her eyes had been aching and blurry, but because her house was far from the medical center and she was busy with farming, she hadn't been able to go for an examination. Hearing that doctors from the Central Highlands Eye Hospital were coming to her village for check-ups, she immediately registered. After being examined and advised on treatment methods, Ms. Nay H Danh expressed: “The doctors were very thoughtful and dedicated. Life in the village is still difficult, so people rarely pay attention to their eye health. Today, receiving a free check-up, I feel reassured and know how to take better care of my eyes.”

From being blind, Mrs. La O H'Đăm (Bưng A hamlet, Ea Ly commune) regained her sight after receiving free eye treatment at the Central Highlands Eye Hospital.

According to Dr. Vuong Minh Vu (Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital), people coming for eye examinations receive a general check-up, visual acuity test, and fundoscopy. During the examination, many common eye diseases such as cataracts, conjunctivitis, pterygium, and refractive errors are detected. For severe cases, the hospital also advises patients on appropriate treatment methods.

"Besides its professional duties, over the years, the hospital has always actively participated in social welfare activities. Many meaningful programs have been implemented such as: free medical examinations and treatment, giving gifts and health insurance cards to disadvantaged people, blood donation, building houses of compassion… not only within the province but also spreading to many other localities."

Dr. Tran Dinh Tuan , Specialist II, Director of Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital

According to Ly Thi Thu Hang, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ea Ly commune, the commune currently has 12 villages and hamlets with 12,104 inhabitants, of which ethnic minorities account for more than 70%. Upon receiving information from the Central Highlands Eye Hospital about the free eye examination program, the local authorities disseminated the information to each village and hamlet so that all residents could participate. The program is of practical significance, helping people in remote areas access quality medical services right in their locality. This is not only a concern for health but also a great source of encouragement, contributing to improving the quality of life for people in the commune.

The journey to restore sight to people suffering from eye diseases in Ea Ly commune was initiated by the Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital with a "zero-cost transportation" service, providing free transport, treatment, and medication as a charitable gift. Immediately after the examination, all patients with eye conditions requiring surgery traveled hundreds of kilometers from their villages to the Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital (309 Ngo Quyen Street, Tan An Ward) for treatment.

Among the patients scheduled for eye surgery this time, Mrs. La O H'Đăm (born in 1958, residing in Bưng A village) is the most special case. Having lived in blindness for many years (diagnosed with cataracts and pterygium), for Mrs. La O H'Đăm, having clear vision to see her loved ones was a great dream. That dream has now come true as doctors have performed cataract surgery using the Phaco method, and simultaneously performed pterygium surgery using autologous conjunctival grafting, restoring her sight.

On the day Mrs. La O H'Dam was discharged from the hospital, a handwritten letter from her niece, La O Ho Goat (42 years old, residing in Bung A village), expressed heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses of the Central Highlands Eye Hospital, who had brought "the light of life" to her loved one. "My family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses who organized this free medical examination program. My grandmother had poor eyesight for many years, making daily life difficult. Today, after the surgery, she can see clearly again. My grandmother exclaimed: 'I am so happy and grateful. Now my eyes can see clearly. Thank you so much to the hospital. Thank you to the doctors for giving me the light to see my children and grandchildren!'" - La O Ho Goat said gratefully.

This handwritten letter from a patient's family, who received free eye treatment, expresses gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Tay Nguyen Eye Hospital.

Sharing the joy with other patients receiving free eye treatment, Mr. Ksor Y Sởi (78 years old, Ea Ly commune) also recently underwent cataract surgery using the Phaco method. Previously, his right eye suffered from cataracts, causing his vision to gradually blur, making daily life difficult. “I thought I would never see my loved ones again in my old age, but thanks to the doctors, I can see my children and grandchildren, and my village clearly again. I'm so happy, so relieved, it's like being given a new pair of eyes,” Mr. Ksor Y Sởi expressed.

The free eye examination and treatment program for the people of Ea Ly commune not only demonstrates the desire to bring clear vision to people in remote areas but also spreads the spirit of sharing and compassion in the community. This is also an opportunity for people to raise awareness about eye health care, proactively prevent and treat eye diseases early. Through this, it creates trust and encouragement for high-quality medical services for people in disadvantaged areas.
