Many cracks are appearing on Hon Trong Mai - Ha Long Bay, and the base of the relic is gradually being eroded.
Hon Trong Mai is divided into 40 blocks according to the crack systems of different sizes, 11 blocks in Hon Trong and 29 blocks in Hon Mai. Over many years of being affected by nature, the crack system is growing and expanding. The foot of Hon Trong Mai is also gradually being eroded.
In March 2022, Quang Ninh province invested nearly 3.5 billion VND to invite the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources to study and assess the current situation and propose solutions. Experts from Norway and Belgium were also invited to coordinate the implementation.
After more than 1 year of research, the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources has proposed many solutions to preserve Trong Mai Islet such as using special concrete spraying technology combined with Polymer fibers to resist corrosion, using anchors to bond the rocks together, using suitable materials to seal cracks, building support platforms for Trong Mai Islet and controlling ships and boats to keep a minimum distance of 50m, ship speed under 10km/h within a radius of 200m.
The Ha Long Bay Management Board has implemented measures to control ships and boats to keep distance and speed from Trong Mai Islet. At the end of August, solutions to preserve Trong Mai Islet will be reviewed and the most appropriate option will be selected for implementation. Quang Ninh province is committed to preparing sufficient resources to preserve the tourism symbol in accordance with UNESCO regulations.
