Built in 1397 under the Ho Quy Ly dynasty, the Ho Dynasty Citadel is the only remaining stone structure in Southeast Asia and one of the few remaining stone citadels in the world .

With unique construction techniques, large blocks of stone were precisely chiseled and stacked on top of each other, creating a solid and magnificent structure.

After being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in 2011, Ho Dynasty Citadel has become a symbol not only of Thanh Hoa province but also the pride of the whole nation.

In recent years, thanks to methodical investment policies and sustainable development orientation, this place is witnessing a clear transformation with a series of new tourism products, rich ineducation , experience and community interaction.

Cultural space with the "soul" of Thanh land

One of the new highlights in the journey to explore the Ho Dynasty Citadel is the exhibition space “Agricultural culture of the Western Capital region”. Here, visitors, especially the younger generation, can admire traditional farming tools, learn about the working and living life of ancient people, and feel the rustic and simple beauty of the Vietnamese countryside.

In addition, outdoor exhibition models such as "Cannons and Ho Dynasty Reform" or "Stone Space for Building Citadel" at the South Gate have become check-in spots attracting many tourists.

Archaeological artifacts excavated in the inner city are also vividly introduced, contributing to demonstrating the outstanding global value of the heritage.

A notable highlight in the tourism development orientation at Ho Dynasty Citadel is the establishment of specialized sightseeing routes by electric car. Currently, there are 4 tourist routes put into operation, connecting the heritage with the buffer zone including traditional villages, historical relics, scenic spots and spiritual destinations.

These routes not only help visitors have a comprehensive view of the Tay Do land but also serve as a bridge to bring indigenous cultural values closer to the public. Each journey is a story from legends, customs, to folk beliefs, creating a profound and emotional travel experience.

The Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Conservation Center pays special attention to educating students about traditions through experiential and learning programs related to local history and culture. This is an effective approach to foster patriotism and awareness of heritage preservation in the younger generation.

At the same time, many training courses and tourism knowledge enhancement courses were organized for people in the buffer zone to raise awareness, reception skills and civilized behavior towards tourists. From there, creating a resonance between heritage conservation and livelihood development for local communities.

Heritage shines on national tourism map

In 2024, the Ho Dynasty Citadel heritage welcomed nearly 260,000 visitors, exceeding the set plan by 162.5% and growing strongly compared to the same period last year. The significant increase in both domestic and international visitors shows the growing attraction of the heritage after tourism improvements.

Not only stopping at current products, the Center is continuing to implement long-term projects, focusing on exploiting the strengths of heritage associated with community tourism, traditional festivals and craft villages.

Students in Vinh Loc district enthusiastically participated in sightseeing activities and learned about history at the World Cultural Heritage Ho Dynasty Citadel, contributing to spreading love for the homeland and educating the young generation about national traditions.

Strengthening regional connections with Ninh Binh, Nghe An, and Ha Tinh also helps Ho Dynasty Citadel integrate into the general development of tourism in the Central region through programs such as "Heritage Road" or "Journey through ancient Vietnamese capitals".

The positive results in developing tourism products at Ho Dynasty Citadel not only show the effectiveness of innovative thinking, but also affirm the increasingly high position of the heritage on the national tourism map.

With a systematic approach, closely linking conservation, education and development, this world heritage is opening up great opportunities for Thanh Hoa tourism in particular and Vietnam in general.
