By the end of 2024, the poverty rate in the district decreased by 3.32%, to 3,405 households (accounting for 17.63% of the total number of households); the near-poverty rate decreased by 1.75%, to 2,900 households (accounting for 15.02%). In ethnic minority areas alone, the poverty reduction rate reached 6.46%.
Lak District currently has over 81,000 inhabitants, of which ethnic minorities account for more than 65%. Although it is no longer on the list of poor districts, the lives of the people, especially in ethnic minority areas, still face many difficulties.
In order to create favorable conditions for poor households to settle down and confidently engage in economic development, the District People's Committee has actively and effectively implemented housing support programs, gradually eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the area. In the first six months of 2025, the entire district supported the construction and repair of 468 houses, helping households to live in peace and stability.

Ms. H'Nan Rơ Yan (born in 1990, Chiêng Kao hamlet, Đắk Phơi commune) is one of the first 25 households to receive a new house under the local project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in 2025. Previously, her family of four lived in a dilapidated wooden house, which greatly affected their daily lives. Having received support to build a new house, she emotionally shared: “The government has helped my family have a solid home to live in. I am very grateful and will try my best to work hard to escape poverty.”
Alongside housing support, Lak district has implemented many policies to support the restructuring of crop and livestock production, provide training in production techniques, and guide people in accessing preferential capital sources, helping them develop their economy.
For example, the family of Ms. H'Pông Bkrông (born in 1985, Ji Juk hamlet, Đắk Phơi commune) had little land for production and six children of school age, so for many years her family was classified as a poor household in the commune. In 2022, she received a loan of 50 million VND from the Lak District branch of the Social Policy Bank to invest in cultivating 4 acres of coffee.
In 2023, the family received another breeding cow to expand their production. Thanks to these timely support policies, by the end of 2024, the family had stabilized their lives and, for the first time, escaped the list of impoverished households in the commune.

Recognizing that ensuring livelihoods is a long-term solution in poverty reduction, Lak District has promoted programs to support farmers with seedlings, livestock, and technical guidance on production. According to Ms. H'Uyn Liêng Hót, the official in charge of labor, war invalids, and social affairs in Dak Phoi commune, the commune currently has 271 ethnic minority households with little land for production and unstable incomes. To help people develop their economy, the commune has mobilized various resources to support them with fruit tree seedlings, chicken breeds, and cattle breeds, and facilitated their access to preferential loan sources. In addition, mass organizations, in coordination with village and hamlet self-governing boards, regularly organize activities to disseminate information, provide guidance on effective farming methods, and promptly commend successful farming households to replicate successful models.
In the first six months of 2025 alone, the entire district implemented 67 production development projects, with a total investment of over 32 billion VND, supporting 1,736 ethnic minority households. In addition, 6,749 households received loans totaling over 349 billion VND from preferential credit programs to invest in production and increase income.
Mr. Dang Xuan Kien, Head of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Department of Lak District, said that in recent years, poverty reduction efforts in the district have achieved many positive results. However, many households that have recently escaped poverty still lack production resources and face a high risk of falling back into poverty. In the coming time, the district will continue to focus on investing in production support, vocational training, and creating sustainable livelihoods for people in ethnic minority areas.
