The silent efforts of the "warriors"

These days, 89 outstanding students from Nguyen Tat Thanh Specialized High School in Van Phu Ward, Lao Cai Province, are diligently studying and preparing for the National Excellent Student Examination, scheduled to take place at the end of December. Their quiet efforts are being nurtured day by day, with a determination to conquer the heights of knowledge.

In early December, the atmosphere at the national teams' training sessions was intense but full of enthusiasm. Unlike regular classes, the training sessions for the national team were more intensive and focused.

The teams are diligently preparing for the National Excellent Student Competition.

Every day, the students have to solve challenging math problems and in-depth essay questions, requiring a solid foundation of knowledge and creative critical thinking. Each student on the team understands that this is the time for the highest concentration, where knowledge is systematized, and gaps are filled through perseverance, effort, accumulation, and training over many years of schooling.

As the only female member of the Math team, Do Ha Linh - the top student in the specialized Math class and also the top-scoring student in the entrance exam for Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted in the 2023-2024 school year - has been training with the team since 10th grade. Last school year, Linh won third prize in the National Math competition, and she aims to improve her award in this year's competition.

Currently, Ha Linh and the other members of the Math team are spending most of their time solving practice exams, simulating the National Exam with strict time limits and pressure. The perseverance and determination of each member have become a shared source of motivation for the entire team to strive for success.

Ha Linh shared: “We study not only for personal achievements, but also for the pride of our school and family, and above all, to overcome our own limitations and conquer higher goals.”

Sharing the same sentiment, Nguyen Anh Thu, a 12th-grade student specializing in Literature, said: “Studying for the National Team is a very arduous journey, requiring almost absolute concentration. After regular classes, there are intensive review sessions, self-study, and research of materials, leaving almost no time for myself. In the upcoming exam, I and my teammates will try our best with the highest determination to achieve results worthy of our efforts over the past time.”

To achieve the expected results, in addition to the students' efforts, the unwavering dedication of the tutoring teachers is crucial. They have devoted their hearts and time to supporting the students, not only imparting knowledge but also igniting a passion for learning.

With over 10 years of experience coaching the national team, teacher Do Le Nam understands that maintaining students' mental well-being is crucial at this stage. Therefore, he constantly researches and innovates to ensure that lessons are not just for review, but also lively discussions on literature and social issues. Students are encouraged to offer their personal perspectives and unique interpretations of contemporary issues.

Teacher Do Le Nam shared: “In the final stage, we focus on guiding the students to write with intellectual depth, unique tone, and individual personality. The teachers in the team will increase the number of thematic dialogues instead of lectures, focusing on refining the writing style through detailed corrections of each sentence, each introductory and concluding paragraph. The goal is to help the students eliminate as many clichés as possible and create a distinct, emotionally rich writing style.”

The teachers are actively preparing the students for the Geography team.

To prepare for the exam, immediately after the Department of Education and Training issued the decision to form a team to participate in the National Excellent Student Competition, the school mobilized all its resources, from experienced teachers and the best facilities to intensive training programs with experts in Hanoi and other provinces.

At this stage, students need focus, encouragement, and support to be in the best possible frame of mind for the exam.

In less than a month, 89 "warriors" from Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted will officially enter the National Excellent Student Examination with the ultimate goal of bringing home prestigious medals, continuing the school's glorious tradition. However, more important than achievement is the growth of the students, because this exam is an opportunity for them to challenge their limits and create a solid foundation for their future academic path.
