For many years, the grounds of the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations have become a familiar place for members of the Lac Hong Health and Wellness Club in Rach Gia Ward. Around 5 a.m. each day, nearly 30 elderly people gather in the grounds to practice health and wellness exercises. As soon as the music starts, all members quickly settle into their positions and enthusiastically begin practicing health and wellness exercises to the familiar tune. They start with graceful, gentle movements of their legs and arms, progressing to more vigorous and decisive movements. Here, the elderly can relax, immerse themselves in the dances, songs, and health and wellness exercises, helping them to feel happier and healthier.
Ms. Nguyen Kim Ngoc, Head of the Lac Hong Health and Wellness Arts Club, shared: “The club currently has 39 members. The oldest is 96 years old, and the youngest is not yet 55. Since its inception, the club has become a beneficial recreational space for the elderly. Besides improving their health, members can meet, socialize, and share stories about their lives and families, and exchange experiences on health care and maintenance… This has fostered closer bonds among members, encouraging and supporting each other both materially and spiritually.”
Ms. Nguyen Kim Anh (84 years old) - a member of the Lac Hong Health and Wellness Club - shared: “I have been a member since the club was established. Every day, I come here with everyone to practice health and wellness exercises with the main purpose of improving my health and physical fitness. Meeting many people, I find joy in old age, feel relaxed, and find life more meaningful.”
Despite being 96 years old, Mrs. Nguyen Kim Oanh, a resident of Rach Gia ward, remains sharp-minded and in good health. Her movements during the Tai Chi exercises are still agile and flexible. “I come here to practice Tai Chi every day. After the exercise session, we sit together and share our joys and life experiences, encouraging each other to live happily and healthily. Meeting friends makes me happy, my spirits are high, and my health in old age is better,” Mrs. Oanh said with a kind smile.
Every day at 5 AM in Vinh Quang residential park, Rach Gia ward, members of the 6/6 Tai Chi and Qigong Club from Nguyen Binh Khiem neighborhood gather for their workout. The 6/6 Tai Chi and Qigong Club was established over 15 years ago, initially with only a few members. With its diverse, engaging, and well-organized activities, the club now attracts many participants. To ensure effective operation, the management board regularly researches and updates new exercises suitable for members, creating opportunities for interaction, sharing, learning, and practicing together. Older members teach newer ones, and today, many club members have mastered various exercises.
Currently, the 6/6 Health and Wellness Club maintains regular activities with 18 members. Ms. Thach Thi Lan Anh, a member of the club, shared: “For the elderly, regular exercise not only helps maintain good health but also prevents age-related illnesses. Every day, we practice health and wellness exercises together, which makes my limbs more flexible. On days when I don't exercise, I feel restless. Each session at the gym combines physical exercise with conversation, creating a cheerful spirit that makes us elderly people feel more optimistic and live happier and healthier lives with our children and grandchildren.”
