- At the age of nearly 50, you are still young and beautiful and recently have been acting regularly again. Does this mean Hoang Xuan has more time for art?
I just turned down a movie because I want to stay home and support my child in school. My eldest daughter is taking the university entrance exam this year. She is very good, just studying. Filming takes a lot of time. For example, last year I accepted to film two movies at once, " Di Giua Troi Ruc Rot" and "Mat Lenh Hoa Sua". There were days when I left for work before my child even woke up, and when I came back, she was already asleep. There were days when I left home at 6am and didn't come back until after 4am the next morning. Sometimes I really feel guilty towards my daughter. My daughter is about to finish 12 years of school, so I want to accompany her as much as possible.
I want to wait until July when my child finishes his university entrance exam before thinking about going back to filmmaking. Recently, a friend from VTV offered to invite me to a new film, but I said I need to ask for a few more days to think about it.
There are suitable roles for actors of all ages, so the important thing is to give it your all when you accept a role. To do that, your family must be stable. Only then can I follow the film crew without worrying about other things. My friend is on the U14 team of the Hanoi Women's Club, so she can only come home every 2 weeks.

I find all my sacrifices worth it.
- Why did you agree to let your daughter pursue a professional football career?
Talking about him is a long story. He suffered a lot. My son and I have been together for many years and I am extremely happy that he is who he is now. I only care about what he wants and whether he can satisfy his passion. We have an agreement that if he cannot follow the team this year, he must return to school.
However, I will also let my child pursue amateur football and let him follow his wish of going to the University of Physical Education and Sports and then studying abroad. He agreed to that deal and now I see him determined to do what he wants. I see him as a different person, more independent and grown up, so I am really happy right now.
What I have now is my effort as well as that of my whole family. That is the happiness of a mother. For women, the most important thing is that their children can live a decent, kind life, and live with their passion.
- During the time you were not involved in art to take care of your children, did you miss your job? Did you feel your sacrifice was worth it?
I feel satisfied with everything I have done and chosen because each has its own value. I think all my sacrifices are worth it. Occasionally, every 2 years, I accept a small role to help me miss my job and have time to take care of my children.
Last year, when my little friend joined the team, I had more free time so I accepted the offer to make a film and went straight from May to December. Since the beginning of the year, I have not dared to accept any film even though I really like it. This is not a priority time, I want to spend more time with my daughter when she is in the transition and growing up stage.

- You are a family person, but last year you spent 8 months on film sets, so where do you find time for your children and to take care of family matters?
The most basic reason is that the person who needs my care the most is on the team. The older ones can take care of everything themselves, but I still often go to the market to divide the food in the fridge so that they can cook for themselves when they get home. When I went to film, I also asked the crew not to film 2 nights a week because I had to take my children to school far away. Luckily, everyone created conditions for me so I could do 2-3 things at once.
Happy or not is up to you
- Many viewers commented that your luxurious image is not suitable for playing a poor role, you mainly play the role of a president or a rich person. Are you as rich and happy in real life as you are in the movies?
I think whether I am happy or not depends on me. At this point, I am satisfied with my current life. But to be honest, it took a lot of effort to get to where I am now. When I was in high school, my family was poor and my parents had a hard time. I was always late paying my tuition.
That's why I'm always determined. My peak was in 1998-1999 with a huge salary. There were days when I took calendar photos from morning to night. Sometimes a simple product advertisement at that time earned tens of thousands of USD. I was conscious of saving from that day. When I got married, I also had my own assets. That's why I always thought that happiness and suffering depended on me, things don't come naturally and haste makes waste.

- The salary from acting in movies certainly can't support you and your family?
I still have to have my own job and am still in charge of all marketing for the family company. In 2008, I decided to leave Ho Chi Minh City and return to Hanoi to work for my sister and do flower business, making clay flowers. At that time, I had certain assets, money, a house and a car, but for me, that was not the end because if I just stopped striving, I would never move forward.
Now, although I can relax and just sit back and support my children, in this new era, if I don't move forward, I will fall behind. I want my children to look at me and see that I am still trying. My eldest daughter once said something to me that still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. It was: "When I grow up, I will be a mother like you." The more I try because of what she said.
