This is the famous loudspeaker - “17th Parallel Loudspeaker”.
"17th Parallel Loudspeaker" displayed at the National Achievement Exhibition "80 years of journey of Independence - Freedom - Happiness". |
This loudspeaker was installed on a mobile vehicle, operating along the northern bank of the Ben Hai River, near Hien Luong Bridge (Vinh Linh, Quang Tri ) during the years of the country's division (1955-1966). This was part of the large-capacity loudspeaker system of the North, serving the propaganda work of fighting against the US imperialists and their puppet regime in the South, demanding the implementation of the Geneva Agreement and the organization of a general election to unify the country.
With a capacity of up to 500W, the speaker can emit sound up to 10km away. Unlike smaller speaker clusters (25W, 50W and 250W) that are fixed on solid reinforced concrete pillars, this speaker is mounted on a mobile vehicle, creating flexibility in propaganda work, directly opposing the propaganda loudspeaker system from the South.

Every day, the loudspeaker system broadcasts programs from Voice of Vietnam and Vinh Linh Radio about the Party's policies and guidelines, the superiority and growth of the socialist North.
Besides political information, there are also programs of mobile radio teams, cultural and artistic programs such as: music, poetry recitation, drama, folk songs... performed by Northern artists. There are programs that last from 14 to 15 hours and sometimes broadcast at night.
A large number of visitors were present at the exhibition space of Voice of Vietnam Radio. |
Not only a broadcasting device, this loudspeaker is also a vivid symbol of the spirit of information struggle, demonstrating the power of revolutionary media, contributing to the great victory of the Vietnamese people in the cause of national reunification.
