Vo Quoc Hung - A boy who lost his mother, dreams of becoming a police officer to make his father proud

The first case this week is Vo Quoc Hung (2013), a 6th grade student at Nguyen Truong To Secondary School, Rach Gia Ward, An Giang Province. His mother passed away 5 years ago after nearly a year of fighting a terrible cancer. Hung grew up in the love and care of his father - who is both a spiritual support and the sole breadwinner of the family. He currently lives with his father Vo Van Thuy (1968), his second brother Vo Nhat Hao (2007) and his third brother Vo Hoang Han (2010).

Hung’s second brother Hao is in 11th grade, and his third brother Han is deaf and speech impaired. Although his father really wants Han to study at a specialized educational institution, the cost is too high for the family to afford. Therefore, Han stays at home and is tutored by his siblings to learn each letter every day. Although he is slower to learn, Han is still very eager to learn and is happy every time he writes a new letter.

Brother Hao and brother Hung always patiently teach brother Han every day.

Hung has been an excellent student for many years, especially outstanding in Math. In grades 3 and 4, he won the Gold Prize in Math at the school level. Hung is very obedient, understanding and always considers his academic achievements as a gift to encourage his father to overcome difficulties.

Previously, the family had saved up enough to build a small house, but because of the cost of his mother's treatment, Mr. Thuy had to sell all of his property. Seeing the dire situation, a benefactor helped build a temporary house for the father and his four children to shelter them from the sun and rain. However, the current house has seriously deteriorated and many places are leaking heavily.

A simple meal in a makeshift house, but this is the warmest place because there is both father and children.

Mr. Thuy used to work as a construction worker and a security guard, but due to his old age and poor health, he now only works as a security guard with an income of about 1.4 million VND/month. Occasionally, he works as a car park attendant at parties to earn extra income. The family's daily meals are very simple, mainly thanks to the help of neighbors and friends.

Having lost his mother at an early age, Hung still remembers her as a spiritual support, and feels even more clearly the hard work of his father. He dreams of becoming a police officer in the future to make his father proud. His second brother, Hao, has a passion for information technology and hopes to pursue his dream of learning a trade. Although they understand that studying is a burden for their father, they both try hard every day to study well - with the hope that one day they can take care of and support the family instead of their father.

In the small house, mother's picture is always a comfort that helps the three brothers to constantly strive.

MC Dai Nghia was heartbroken when witnessing Quoc Hung's maturity, he did not think the boy was only 12-13 years old. According to the male MC, at this age, children should be carefree, innocently living with their dreams, but Hung matured early because of his family's difficult circumstances. The boy was too young to have to worry about life, his father and brothers.

What makes Dai Nghia admire the most is Hung's perseverance in teaching his third brother who was born deaf. Despite his difficult life, he still tries his best to study every day. When hearing Hung say he is "a burden to his father", MC Dai Nghia choked up and said: " Don't think of yourself as a burden. Every child is a gift that parents have in this life. No matter how difficult it is, parents will never consider you a burden. Don't put pressure on yourself anymore, child."

The story of the father and his four children made MC Dai Nghia, Rapper Wean and Miss Phuong Linh choke up at the studio.

Rapper Wean also expressed sympathy and encouraged Quoc Hung to look at things more positively: “ Hung's thoughts are understandable, but instead of letting that become pressure, turn it into motivation. I believe that Hung and his brothers are the support to help their father have a less difficult time. Life always has a way, as long as you stay optimistic, nothing can defeat you.”

Nhat Men – A poor student cherishes the dream of becoming a police officer to protect the vulnerable

Ho Thi Nhat Men (2013), is currently a 7th grade student at An Thanh Tay Secondary School, An Thanh Commune, Can Tho City. Her mother left when Men was not yet 2 years old, her father and grandparents were the ones who directly took care of and raised her. Ironically, in 2025, her father passed away after many years of fighting cirrhosis. The pain of losing her father was so great that Men cried many times, blaming herself for being too young to care for or help her father.

Despite their old age and poor health, Men's grandparents still try to work with a small income, just with the hope of taking care of their granddaughter.

Currently, Men’s elderly grandparents are his only support. The three of them live in a temporary house built in 2015, which is now seriously degraded and still owes the bank 10 million VND. Grandmother Nguyen Thi Anh Nguyet has osteoarthritis and can only work a few days a month, with an unstable income of about 80,000-120,000 VND/day. Grandfather Ho Cong Chuc does many jobs for hire, earning about 200,000 VND/day, but due to poor health, he can only work a few days a month.

Nhat Men herself suffers from gastroesophageal reflux but has not had the means to seek treatment. Despite this, she still strives to study, achieving the title of excellent student for many consecutive years. Nhat Men cherishes the dream of becoming a police officer to protect the vulnerable – a simple but meaningful aspiration.

Every day, I ride my old bike, which has broken down many times, over 3km to school. At the beginning of the school year, because I didn't have money to pay for insurance, I almost had to drop out of school. Luckily, thanks to the help of my teachers, I was able to continue going to school. For Men, going to class is a great happiness, but every time I talk about studying or the future, I choke up because I'm afraid of having to give up my dream, afraid of not having the chance to take care of my grandparents.

Nhat Men studied hard, strongly overcame illness and poverty to nurture his dream of becoming a police officer.

The question “Mom, why did you leave me? Do you love me? Why did you leave me when I was little, and never even once asked about me? I just want you to see me, to comb my hair once…” moved the audience and MC Dai Nghia. The image of the gentle, shy girl, always bowing her head, made the MC choke up as he shared: “ Normally, I can find a reason to sympathize with parents when they cannot take care of their children, but with this story, I really cannot explain it.”

Despite suffering many disadvantages, when asked if she was angry with her mother, Nhat Men still shook her head and said "No" . That tolerance and kindness made the whole studio silent.

Miss Phuong Linh could not hold back her tears at the seemingly simple dream of having her mother comb her hair once, but for Men it was far away. She asked permission to comb her hair, while talking to her kindly and encouragingly: "I believe that your understanding, diligence and determination will help you change your life, and one day, you will make everyone proud."

Touched by her dream of having her mother comb her hair once in her life, Miss Phuong Linh gently tied Nhat Men's hair and sent her words of encouragement.
