Proactively keeping up with and applying scientific advances in production and business activities, farmers in the 4.0 technology era have changed their thinking and working methods to get closer to smart agriculture . Also from the support of technology, many agricultural products of Quang Ninh are increasingly reaching out, affirming their brands in the market and bringing good income to farmers.

Change your mindset - change your way of getting rich
This year's early-ripening lychee season, lychee growers in Phuong Nam Ward (Uong Bi City) have joined hands with some influential people on social networks who specialize in reviewing agricultural products to livestream, promote and sell early-ripening lychees. This approach received positive feedback when within 20 days, 100% of the early-ripening lychee output of Phuong Nam households was consumed at an average selling price of VND 38,000/kg, reaching a total revenue of nearly VND 61 billion, an increase of VND 10.8 billion compared to 2023.
Mr. Bui Van Tra, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Phuong Nam Ward, shared: For farmers, the sales channel through e-commerce platforms is really a very new direction, but its potential and strengths can be seen. This year, thanks to livestreaming, Phuong Nam early-ripening lychees are known to more people at home and abroad, especially young people. The economic value is also more effective, each kilogram of lychees can be sold for 50,000-60,000 VND, while selling in the traditional form is usually from 35,000-40,000 VND/kg.
Livestreaming sales or exploiting social networking platforms to expand output for agricultural products is also the choice of many Quang Ninh farmers in the digital age. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuong, owner of Long Thuong Shrimp Shrimp Production Facility (Quang Yen Town) said: In addition to selling products in traditional ways such as delivering to markets and shopping malls, the facility has promoted and introduced products via Facebook, Zalo, TikTok and put products on e-commerce platforms. Thanks to that, business is more favorable, the brand is known, trusted and used more by consumers. Currently, the facility achieves a revenue of over 1 billion VND per year.

As for Mr. Phan Manh's (Ha Long City) fish sauce production facility, he regularly livestreams to promote and introduce products on TikTok and Facebook platforms. "In addition to livestreaming to sell products, I also post videos about the processing and production process of fish sauce products. The posts receive a lot of interactions, thanks to which, the number of customers is increasing day by day" - Mr. Phan Manh said.
In particular, many farmers have also boldly innovated production methods, applied science and technology to optimize the farming process, and increased productivity and value of agricultural products.

With just a smartphone, Mr. Dong Quang Cuong (Cam La commune, Quang Yen town) does not need to be present at his farm but can still grasp the livestock situation. The operation of the 3.5ha farm with over 15,000 poultry has become much more convenient thanks to the application of digital transformation. The remaining time Mr. Cuong spends on market research, connecting with customers and planning future development strategies.
Mr. Cuong shared: The farm is equipped with control and automation systems such as automatic feeding machines, automatic drinking water, cooling and deodorizing systems... Parameters of humidity, environment, light and temperature will be monitored and controlled right on the smartphone. Regardless of the space and time, I can clearly understand the actual production situation and can directly adjust through the command codes installed on the application, thereby handling arising situations. Farming is now much less difficult than before.

As for Mr. Nguyen Van Cu's family (Quang Thinh commune, Hai Ha district), investing in a water-saving irrigation system has greatly supported his family in taking care of tea. With 6,000m2 of Ngoc Thuy tea, he boldly invested in installing 6 water-saving irrigation pillars. These pillars will automatically rotate and spray water around based on the family's available water source. Mr. Cu said: Since applying the model, my family has harvested 7 batches of tea each year, an increase of 1 batch compared to before. The total tea output is estimated at 20 tons/year, generating a revenue of more than 100 million VND. Watering time has also been reduced from 12 hours to 30 minutes per day; compared to previous flooding irrigation, this model has saved up to 60% of water.

Empowering farmers to master science
Technology 4.0 has been and is affecting all areas of life, including agriculture and farmers. Accessing and mastering digital technology will be an important "key" for farmers to improve production efficiency based on the application of scientific and technical achievements to the entire production and consumption process of products...
From the benefits of digital transformation, in recent times, the provincial departments and branches have implemented many solutions to support and encourage farmers, owners of production facilities, and cooperatives to innovate, invest in technology, and keep up with the digital era. For example, the Farmers' Association at all levels has implemented many practical activities to raise awareness and actions on digital transformation among farmers. Specifically, organizing conferences to promote digital technology and information technology on agricultural production for farmers; instructing Farmers' Association members in creating accounts, writing articles, taking photos, and creating promotional videos about products and services to post on e-commerce platforms and social networks; introducing cashless payment applications...

The province has also established 1,473 community digital technology teams, covering all 177 communes, wards and towns and 1,452 villages, hamlets and neighborhoods with the participation of more than 11,000 members. With great efforts and flexible approaches, the community digital technology teams have actively supported people, helping to spread digital technology to every corner of life, while making an important contribution to promoting digital transformation in the whole province.
Or like the Dong Trieu Town Agricultural Technical Service Center. In order to encourage people to apply mechanization in production, in early April this year, this unit organized a demonstration of using drones to spray pesticides in a 7.5ha concentrated rice field of 56 households in Dong Y village. The demonstration attracted many households to visit.

According to Mr. Bui Van Hanh, Director of Dong Trieu Town Agricultural Technical Service Center: Spraying pesticides on rice with drones has the advantage of even dispersion of pesticide particles, short spraying time, only about 10-15 minutes/ha of crop, can spray large areas, concentrated spraying and will save 30% of pesticides and 90% of water compared to manual methods and ensure safety for farmers because they do not have to come into direct contact with pesticides during the spraying process. The use of drones to spray pesticides on fields has been deployed by Dong Trieu since 2021. Currently, the town's Agricultural Technical Service Center has disseminated this technique to households in 20 communes and wards in the area. This is also a direction on the digital transformation journey of the town's agricultural sector.

Localities in Quang Ninh province have also proactively supported the development of advantageous products. Directed the allocation of concentrated resources, increased support for interest rates, machinery, factories, production equipment, infrastructure for concentrated production areas... The number of machines and the rate of mechanization applied to agricultural production in Quang Ninh province are constantly increasing. The whole province currently has over 7,000 tillage machines of all kinds, meeting 90% of the cultivated area, over 2,500 threshing machines, 3,000 rice milling machines meeting over 95% of production needs and over 700 sowing machines, meeting about 40% of the rice growing area...

Currently, Quang Ninh's agricultural sector is also aiming to develop towards high-tech agriculture, smart agriculture; manage agriculture based on digital technology, build a digital data platform to serve industry management; apply digital technology to automate production and business processes, manage and monitor the origin of agricultural products, product supply chains; develop e-commerce in agriculture, focusing on the province's key products.
“To achieve this goal, Quang Ninh province plans to promote training and transform production models to help farmers access science and technology in production. Farmers also need to change their mindset, proactively keep up with the world's general trend to change production and cultivation methods, in order to increase the value of agricultural products, and gradually develop the agricultural sector sustainably,” said Mr. Nguyen Minh Son, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
