In the early days of 2026, favorable weather conditions prompted many farmers in Vinh Dinh commune to focus on preparing the land for the winter-spring rice crop and planting other crops. Mr. Tran Van Dang, from Kinh Duy village, Vinh Dinh commune, was busily clearing weeds in his crop area and also clearing weeds along the edges of several acres of rice fields nearby to prepare the land for planting rice.
Mr. Dang said: “We will sow and plant as soon as the land is prepared to ensure timely planting. Here, I'm growing bitter melon and other vegetables. As for rice, this season we are mainly sowing HC95 and Bac Thinh varieties. Although it's only the beginning of the new year, I and the villagers here are all excited and focusing on working diligently in the fields to have a bountiful harvest.”
The entire Kinh Duy village currently cultivates over 60 hectares of rice and 12 hectares of other crops. This is also the main source of livelihood for the people in this predominantly agricultural area. By this time, the planting of winter-spring rice and other crops has been basically completed.
Meanwhile, these days, farmers at Phuong Gia Agricultural Service Cooperative in Nam Dong Ha ward are also focusing on preparing the land for planting the winter-spring rice crop. The atmosphere of labor and production here is urgent and enthusiastic, carrying much hope for a promising harvest right from the beginning of the year.
Mr. Truong Van Khanh, from Phuong Gia neighborhood, Nam Dong Ha ward, said that at this time, his family has to constantly work in the fields to call in machinery for land preparation and carry out the planting and sowing stages to ensure timely planting. “During the recent warm and sunny days, my family has managed to sow more than half of the area. After sowing, I will proceed with spraying pesticides to prevent pests and diseases and actively tend to the rice plants to complete the replanting before the Lunar New Year,” Mr. Khanh said.

To date, Phuong Gia Agricultural Service Cooperative has sown over 20 hectares out of a total of 53 hectares of rice for the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop. The remaining area is undergoing drainage and land preparation to ensure sowing is completed before January 14th.
Mr. Truong Van Hieu, Director of Phuong Gia Agricultural Service Cooperative in Nam Dong Ha ward, said: Before planting the 2025-2026 winter-spring rice crop, the cooperative organized farmers to eradicate rats and golden apple snails, dredge canals, and clean the fields. Afterward, they drained the irrigation water, mobilized all available plows for land preparation, and used pumps to drain water from the fields to help farmers focus on planting and ensure adherence to the seasonal schedule. In the coming time, the cooperative will continue to mobilize farmers to care for, replant, and prevent pests and diseases to ensure a successful harvest…
This year's winter-spring rice crop, Phuong Gia Agricultural Service Cooperative is planting mainly varieties such as Bac Thinh, Ha Phat 3, and HC95. Thanks to good preparation of seed sources, fertilizers, irrigation, and ensuring the mobilization of agricultural machinery, the planting process for local farmers has been smooth and on schedule.
In Le Thuy commune, one of the localities with a large rice cultivation area in the province, the atmosphere of production is extremely urgent. Mr. Le Van Tan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Le Thuy commune, informed that for the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop, the entire commune will plant a total area of over 4,000 hectares with main varieties such as VNR20, QS88, and DB6. To ensure crop safety, the locality had previously launched a campaign to eradicate rats and golden apple snails, clean the fields, and repair and dredge the canal system.
Mr. Tan said that, as of now, villages such as Xuan Hoi and Xuan Bo have begun sowing. Cooperative societies in the area are also continuing to mobilize machinery and manpower to focus on land preparation for sowing, striving to complete the entire area before January 25, 2026. It is known that Le Thuy commune is continuing to expand the model of organic rice production and large-scale model fields. Starting from this year's winter-spring crop, the locality will apply technology to the fields, especially using drones to spray pesticides and fertilize, helping to reduce costs and improve production and planting efficiency.
For the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop season, Quang Tri province is expected to sow over 55,000 hectares of rice, with a variety structure including key, common rice varieties such as HN6, Khang Dan 18, VNR20, HC95, Ha Phat 3, HG12, PC6, QS88, AD128, TBR97, DD2, Nhi Uu 838, VT404… Currently, preparations for the winter-spring crop season are being urgently implemented by farmers, local authorities, and the agricultural sector.
According to Ms. Nguyen Hong Phuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in addition to 55,000 hectares of rice, the locality also has about 7,500 hectares of corn and 6,800 hectares of peanuts. The province aims for a grain crop production of over 370,000 tons in this winter-spring season, with rice achieving a yield of 60.4 quintals/hectare and a production of 335,200 tons.
To achieve the above goals, in the context of potentially unfavorable weather conditions, the agricultural sector advises farmers to adhere to the seasonal planting schedule. The first rice crop should be sown starting from January 1, 2026, with concentrated planting from January 5-15, 2026, and the final crops completed before January 25, 2026. Ms. Phuong also emphasized that farmers and localities need to use rice varieties that meet quality standards as prescribed, and absolutely not use degraded rice varieties or rice grains intended for consumption as seeds. Sowing density must be appropriate, and increased application of organic fertilizers, microbial organic fertilizers, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers is necessary, with a focus on applying base fertilizers from the beginning of the season.
With a proactive spirit and enthusiastic attitude right from the start of the new year, farmers in many localities in the province expect a year of stable, sustainable, and promising agricultural production.
