Advanced New Rural Areas - the foundation for becoming wards

From April 30, 2026, Dong Nai City will have 33 wards and 62 communes, marking a significant step in the urbanization process. However, behind these numbers, a question arises: what is the foundation for communes to gradually "become wards"? In reality, the program for building advanced and model new rural areas is becoming the answer to this question.

As one of the leading industrial centers in the country, Dong Nai has attracted more than 3,000 projects from domestic and foreign businesses from over 50 countries and territories. Industry continues to be a pillar of growth in the coming period. However, instead of allowing the gap between urban and rural areas to widen, Dong Nai has chosen a balanced development approach, in which rural areas are systematically invested in through the advanced and model new rural development program, aiming to improve people's lives and narrow the development gap.

In its planning until 2030, the city has identified restructuring the agricultural sector in conjunction with innovating growth models, developing in a sustainable, environmentally friendly direction, and adapting to climate change. Production will no longer be limited to small-scale operations but will gradually shift towards value chain organization, focusing on key product groups, applying high technology, and linking with deep processing industries. This is the direction that will help agriculture not only increase output but also enhance its value.

In reality, many localities have formed large-scale specialized farming areas for crops and livestock, capable of supplying processing and export. Notably, in recent years, international retail corporations such as Walmart, Amazon, Safeway (USA); Falabella (Chile); Aeon, Uniqlo (Japan); Carrefour, Decathlon (France); Central Group (Thailand); Ikea (Sweden); Coppel (Mexico)... have continuously come to Vietnam to seek sources of goods. Dong Nai has become one of the chosen destinations for ordering industrial, agricultural, and handicraft products.

This opens up clear opportunities: if localities choose the right key products, build brands, and participate in global supply chains, the value of agricultural products will be significantly increased. With stable output, people will confidently invest in science and technology, improve productivity and quality, and increase income. From there, the rural economy will develop, creating resources to complete the criteria for advanced new rural development, moving towards model and smart rural areas.

It can be seen that advanced, model, and smart rural areas are not only the goal of agricultural development but also the foundation for communes to gradually complete urban criteria and move towards becoming wards. This is a fundamental development path that helps the urbanization process of the city to take place sustainably, without creating "gaps" in infrastructure and quality of life.

From a land steadfast during wartime to a dynamic economic center after 40 years of reform, Dong Nai is facing many opportunities for breakthroughs. The goal of achieving a GRDP of approximately 150 billion USD by 2045, a GRDP per capita of nearly 24,000 USD, and aiming for net zero emissions is entirely feasible.

The issue now is not just about potential and advantages, but about how to organize and implement it. When the government, businesses, and people work together, the enhanced rural development program will truly become a "launching pad" for Dong Nai to develop faster and more sustainably in the future.
