Associate Professor Dr. Ta Quang Dong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - presented the Decision to appoint Meritorious Artist, Dr. Bui Nhu Lai to hold the position of Principal of Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema (HUTAC).

On September 5, at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ceremony to Announce the Decision to appoint Meritorious Artist, Dr. Bui Nhu Lai to the position of Principal of Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema (HUTAC) took place.

On the side of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - the unit hosting the ceremony, there was the participation of Associate Professor, Dr. Ta Quang Dong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST); Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Organization and Personnel - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and representatives of the leaders of the Departments, Divisions and units under the Ministry.

On behalf of Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema, there were: Dr. Pham Dac Thi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Vice Principal; Dr. Pham Tri Thanh, Chairman of the University Council, along with representatives of the Party Committee, Trade Union, Youth Union, leaders of faculties, departments, and centers.

Mr. Bui Nhu Lai devoted himself to his training career.

Speaking at the assignment of tasks to the new Principal Bui Nhu Lai, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed that Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema is a key training unit in the arts sector, with many generations of artists, directors, cameramen, screenwriters, etc. contributing to affirming the position of Vietnamese cinema and theater.

He said that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has been and will continue to invest so that the School can maintain its pioneering position and reach the regional level. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the position of Principal is not only a title but also a great responsibility, associated with the task of training high-quality human resources for cinema, theater and cultural and artistic sectors, meeting the requirements of national development.

He believes that with the consensus of the collective, the new Principal will help the School develop strongly, integrate internationally, and at the same time preserve and spread traditional cultural values.

Bui Nhu Lai – The hope of a prestigious art training cradle

At the ceremony to receive the assignment, the new Principal Bui Nhu Lai respectfully thanked the Party Committee of the Ministry and the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for their trust and attention. He expressed his honor and pride when the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism entrusted him with the responsibility of Principal of the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema.

He believes that the high trust from the faculty, staff and the School Board is both a great honor and a heavy responsibility, motivating him to constantly strive to meet expectations.

With that spirit, he called for joint efforts to fulfill the mission of training artistic human resources with both good personality and professional skills, meeting the requirements of national development.

Bui Nhu Lai - Remarkable artistic achievements

Born in 1979, from a working-class family. He graduated with a degree in Drama Acting, then studied Stage Directing at the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema and successfully defended his PhD thesis in Art Studies.

On stage, he was an actor and director of the Youth Theater, taking on the roles of Head of the Physical Drama Troupe and Head of Drama Troupe 1. He once performed in Ho Chi Minh City and received the love of the public.

With his unique creative style, he has left behind many impressive works, both inheriting traditional quintessence and carrying a contemporary breath.

Since 2019, he returned to Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema to teach, research and hold the positions of Deputy Head of Department, Head of Theatre Department, Vice Principal, Secretary of Theatre Party Cell, and Party Committee member.

Bui Nhu Lai – Contributing to Master's training in the South

In each position, he demonstrated his management skills, innovative thinking and ability to connect and unite the team. In particular, he is one of the few members who advocated organizing the recruitment of Master's training courses in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces, so that many artists, directors, authors, and journalists can participate and complete their studies. Currently, there are Masters in cinema - television; theater such as: Trinh Kim Chi, Hanh Thuy, Ho Hong Tham, Thanh Hiep, Tuyet Van, Huu Tien, Bui Minh Hoang, Nhat Cuong, Minh Cao, Ho Ngoc Trinh... who are working in many fields of culture and arts in Ho Chi Minh City and the southern provinces.

He used to teach in Ho Chi Minh City, imparting a lot of knowledge to artists, directors, and authors so that the K21 course could achieve success and prepare the K22 course to defend its outline, then proceed to defend its Master's thesis in Theater, Cinema - Television. This effort has helped the Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema have more qualified masters to teach at the university level.

Meritorious Artist, Dr. Bui Nhu Lai is the director of many award-winning plays: "Rebirth" - Outstanding Creative Director Award (2020) and Gold Medal at the Stage Arts Festival on the image of the People's Public Security soldier. "To the Other Shore"; Gold Medal at the International Experimental Theater Festival (2022).

The play "Oedipus the King" (Silver Medal at the same festival); "The Poison Cup" (2021) - re-enacting the first spoken play of Vietnamese theater to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnamese Theater; "Like a Falling Rain" (2024) - won many awards at the Asian Arts School Theater Festival.

In addition to the stage, he also participated in cinema and television with impressive roles in: "Under the tree of happiness" (2023) and "My father, the one who stayed" (2025).

With his persistent contributions, in 2019, Bui Nhu Lai was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist and the Third Class Labor Medal.
